What if one pan could do everything the best traditional stainless-steel, cast-iron, and nonstick pans can do—and, in some cases, even do it a little better?...

Looking for old school types of boxers that I can wear as pjs and around home. Constructed so my dick won't flap out, and thick enough (the boxers) so I don't feel like I'm putting on a show

Just a reminder that Amazon will promote these fake stores more than real independent stores. If you can not find the store, it's 99% fake. Some of these are Trademarked, you can trace it back to China in some cases. Some are bad, some aren't, still the products won't last forever. These products are build by the cheapest material possible. You don't need a extension, you just need to google these fake stores because they won't put in the effort in making fake websites. The ones that do put in effort are poorly made, a red flag.

So to recap:

  1. Don't buy from Amazon, avoid the problem

  2. Look up fake store, if you found something

  3. Study the website/trademark for clues

I'd like a place where warranties aren't a factor when discussing BIFL items. I know that some feel otherwise but for me the appeal of BIFL is NOT frugality (though it often overlaps) but rather in owning high quality, long lasting, repairable items. It also has an aspect of sustainability as I hope to only buy one of something and not have to consume multiples of the same thing when I replace them with a warranty. Also worth noting is that warranties are only good as long as the company issuing them still exists and honors them but high quality things will continue to work.

Anyway, excited to see this community here but I'd like a rule against warranties being considered when assessing if something is BIFL.

I have 3 which I use every day for something or other which is useful - and it's nothing to do with mountain climbing. It's always about creatively hanging bulky objects from the most doggone of places

Looking for recommendations for a fan that is powerful but quiet. My couch sits in an alcove so I need to direct the cold air from the ac to me, but I am hyper sensitive to noise.

I just wanted to know if anybody knows of specific kitchen utensil brands that're actually worth buying long-term. Or atleast which ones should be avoided.

I've wasted time checking reviews for various sets and always find concerning ones between the positives.
I really just need a Spoon, Slotted Spoon, (Flexible) Spatula, and Kitchen Tongs.
A Deep Soup Ladle, Whisk, and Pasta Server would just be convenient.
I don't expect a set to have a solid cheese grater, so I'll be buying that separately by default.

Preferences:
I'm trying to avoid exposed metal on the head of the utensils since I'd worry about scratching my pots and pans. Other than that, I've got no preference beyond "non putting toxins or its broken off material in my food". 🤷🏿‍♂️

If this post doesn't work out, I'll just start checking reviews for specific utensils. 😑

Can anyone recommend a set of flip flops that are durable and last a long time? I had another cheap pair break the other day, and I'm looking for something more durable.

Hello everyone! Glad to see so many people here!

Maybe a mini-introduction from me? I care a lot about durable products because I am dirt poor, and it's so important for me to have things that last. I also care about the environment, so the less landfill, the better (if this is something you also care about, consider checking out @zerowaste!). Currently typing this on a refurbished mid-2012 MacBook Pro beautifully running MacOS Ventura through OCLP. It's not really showing signs of aging, and I hope I can get many more years out of it, as, well, I am poor, lol (but should I ever acquire $$$$$, I definitely wouldn't mind an upgrade :))

I'm not sure if I plan on continuing to moderate this magazine - I just wanted to move subreddits to the Fediverse, to get a head start.

Any r/BuyItForLife mods here that want to continue moderating? m/BuyItForLife, would you like me to contact the subreddit mods to see if they would like to moderate here? Anyone interested in moderating?

Feel free to also respond with an introduction, why you care about "buy it for life" products, and a "buy it for life" product you own/value! And please, feel free to make posts in this magazine, whether they're questions, products you own, or anything else related to BIFL!

And finally, please be patient with me! I'm currently juggling a million things, both online and irl. Thanks! And once again, welcome!

The BuyItForLife subreddit is trying to figure out what to do with the changes hitting Reddit and some really interesting points about possible attempts to advertise products that aren't really BIFL. Would be great if we could encourage them to come here. Edit to add link that won't let Reddit track you: https://teddit.adminforge.de/r/BuyItForLife/comments/14dnxaf/post_blackout_reddit_and_the_future_of/

Bought this in 2008 and am still using it in 2023. It's compact, durable and has produced great coffee for me, nearly everyday, for the last 15 years. All you need is a kettle and good coffee beans. Add coffee, pour hot water, wait 1 minute then press the plunger to get your morning brew.
