Doc and Bart discuss how the walled gardens of the present are finally getting some real competition from a better, and more open social web. A return to the original promise of the web. That anyone can find a home, their own place on the internet, and connect with whomever they want without getting trapped within a single platform thanks to open protocols like ActivityPub and open platforms like Mastodon. Whether it’s through a newsletter, a podcast or a publisher’s website, Bart’s goal is to get a million websites and a hundred million people onto the fediverse.

Coming soon in the #Peertube livechat plugin: notes for moderators.

Moderatos will be able to create notes. Like the existing TODO-list feature, editing will be done in real time: if Mike creates or modifies a note, all of other moderators will see it right away.

Notes can be reordered, also in real time.

And it will be possible to associate a note with an occupant. That way, moderators can take notes on problematic participants. (This part remains to be done).

Thus, the fediverse was born — an attempt to wrest control of microblogging services, such as Twitter and its ilk, away from centralized powers and into the hands of the people.

Instagram’s Twitter/X rival Threads is furthering its expansion into the fediverse — the interconnected social network that includes apps like Mastodon, PeerTube and others running the ActivityPub protocol. On Tuesday, Meta announced that it’s now opening up its beta for sharing to the fediverse to Threads users who are 18 and up and who are using Threads with a public account in global markets.
