As the titler says - what is your favorite ink, and why? Does it change with the seasons or the use case?

I can start out. My current favorite is Diamine Oxblood. I'm not really sure why this is, but I like the color and it behaves nicely in my Safari. I also enjoy my Iroshizuko Tsuki-Yo, and I really like this color, but I have not tested this much. But I think it will be good in my AL-Star 2023LE Petrol! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Hi! Just ordered a couple of Jinhao x159 for me and my wife. Hopefully they will be delivered next week ๐Ÿคž

Anyone got experience with these pens?

Hi all, I picked up a Parker 45 at an antiques store last year and wondering if anybody has ideas about the era / any other distinguishing features.

I am guessing it's pre-1970s because it has the inverted conical clip screw: image. It's unclear to me, though, if they made these sorts of steel cap / gold clip / plastic body hybrids (e.g. as a variant of the 45 Classic), or if I bought a franken45 with a flighter cap.

In any case, I don't really care because the pen works great! Medium nib, smooth as butter, and I like how it looks. But this is my first vintage pen foray and I'd be interested to know more about it's history!

More images here if helpful (edit:figured out how to get them to display in line!)

Is it possible?

Hi everyone, I'm pretty new to fountain pens. I'm looking to buy a teal ink. I have two Iroshizuku inks that I really like, tsuki-yo and yu-yake, so I was thinking maybe I should get syo-ro. However, I'm also thinking that it would be worth trying another brand. Can anyone make any recommendations?

I really like ink with lots of shading. I mostly just write personal notes for work and journaling.

With the end of Reddit third party apps, I'm looking for ways to fill the r/fountainpens void. (And this community is a great start!)

I use Feedly as an aggregator and am looking for some fountain pen blogs to follow. So far, I've got:

Other recommendations? Thanks!

I'd love to see some ideas or suggestions for a better banner image for this community, something that shows a bit more spirit and interest. This current image is one that I found on Unsplash.

If anyone is interested in creating a new banner image for the community, please submit it in the comments of this post!

How many inks do you have?

Im excited to be on lemmy with other pen people! Is there a separate place for trading, selling and buying pens like on reddit? I know things are still kind of in flux so there may not be anything yet but I definitely want to join if something is already out there.

...but I find myself only using one - my CF nib Pilot Metropolitan.

It's the only stub nib I've found which is fine enough for my handwriting size - yep it burps on occasion when I fill it, but I only want to use this pen.

Anyone else have far more expensive pens sitting around doing nothing while they use a cheap/mid range pen?

I started off using different colors because I liked them. Turns out that my brain really likes this style of information organization, and it's helped me a bunch when it comes to learning and sticking with good design habits!

Notebook: Colorverse Nebula

Pens, L-R: Platinum Preppy (fine, Colorverse Brane), TWSBI Eco (broad, Birmingham Pen Co. Lightning Twinkle), Opus88 Mini (fine, Pilot Iroshizuku Yama-budo), and Bonecrusher (medium, Diamine Writers Blood)

A Colorverse Nebula notebook is open to two pages of notes and drawings on tips for designing snap-fit joints on 3d printed objects, written in different ink colors. The notebook is surrounded by pencils (a Bic mechanical and Tombow 4H), a plastic pencil sharpener, and a test tube rack holding four fountain pens.

Kind of a grail pen. As a child of the 60s & 70s, Iโ€™m fond of rainbows even without their modern symbolism, which I support. Happened to catch this one on sale, and it arrived yesterday. Iโ€™m very happy.

Photo of handwritten note wishing everyone a happy midsummer

I felt inspired to draw a sun but I generally prefer to focus on handwriting and inks. :)

Hello all, I recently joined, looking for a Reddit alternative.

This past weekend I had no intention of buying a new pen, but happened upon a sale I wasn't able to pass up. Here is my latest addition, which arrived less than an hour ago.
