EDIT: This issue has been resolved thanks to the efforts of @headie_sage. Leaving this up for visibility for a few more days.

cross-posted from: https://fanaticus.social/post/255842

As we approach the best time of the year, I just wanted to inform everyone of a federation issue between this instance and one of the most popular instances out there. Fanaticus and lemmy.world do not seem to federating correctly which likely will cause a significant number of active Lemmy users to not be able to interact with the communities on Fanaticus and vice versa. Basically, our view of their community is stuck in the past and we will not get to see new posts and comments, and they will not be able to see new posts or comments on Fanaticus.

What our view of one of their communities looks like:

Fanaticus

What that community actually shows:

Lemmy.World

The users on their sports communities seem pretty active recently, so it is unfortunate that most of them will be unable to see and interact with us. I am still hopeful that we can grow and become more active with the start of the season. Our admin is aware of this issue and is in communication with the lemmy.world mods to see if this issue can be resolved but as far as I know we do not have a timeline for resolution yet.

As always, please let me know what ideas you have that you want to see implemented in this community. I’m also still looking for mods for this community and all of the individual team communities.

The San Francisco 49ers will be without receiver/returner Ray-Ray McCloud for about two months after he broke his left wrist, coach Kyle Shanahan said Thursday.

McCloud injured the wrist while trying to haul in a deep pass from quarterback Sam Darnold in Tuesday's practice and is slated to have surgery Friday. He is expected to miss eight weeks.

"They always say around eight weeks," Shanahan told reporters after Thursday's practice with the Las Vegas Raiders. "It could be a little less. Hopefully, it is. We'll see.

There were a lot of familiar faces flying around Jimmy Garoppolo during Thursday's joint practice between his new team, the Las Vegas Raiders, and his old team, the San Francisco 49ers, so the irony was not lost on the quarterback.

Not with the Niners defense woofing at him.

"First play, Dre [Greenlaw] was talking, got things going right away," Garoppolo said with a laugh, referencing the 49ers linebacker. "Those are my brothers. I love those guys. We had a good time out there competing."

Tennessee Titans assistant coach Terrell Williams, who will serve as the head coach for Saturday's preseason opener against the Chicago Bears, on Thursday gave Mike Vrabel credit for being forward-thinking and giving him an opportunity.

Vrabel presented the idea to Williams a couple of weeks ago. Assistant coaches have called plays or handled an increased workload in spot duty, but taking over as the head coach for a game is unprecedented.

"Mike Vrabel deserves a lot of credit," Williams said in his first media availability since the switch was made. "Hopefully more coaches will give assistant coaches opportunities to do this because there's nothing better than actually getting the experience."

This is the second year in a row the Bengals have had a fight at a joint practice, but it seems like a Packers player started this. One player does say this would never happen in a game but practice is a little different because there’s no consequences. I think this is a good example that there probably should’ve been consequences for Aaron Donald last year, that was definitely over the top and that would make players think twice about it.

The Dallas Cowboys' kicking competition is not over, but it has changed with the release of Tristan Vizcaino, coach Mike McCarthy announced on Monday. Brandon Aubrey is the only kicker on the 90-man roster after the release of Vizcaino, but the team could add another soon, or it might wait as teams across the league pare down their kickers. Proven kickers such as Robbie Gould and Mason Crosby remain available, but the Cowboys have yet to express interest in adding a veteran.

In eight padded practices, Vizcaino made 22 of 35 attempts during team drills and was just 4-of-8 in the most recent Dallas practice Saturday, including four straight misses, although one was a result of a poor snap. Aubrey, who played for the USFL's Birmingham Stallions in the spring, has made 26 of 35 attempts but was 1-of-3 in end-of-game situations Saturday.

Speaking for the first time publicly since requesting a trade this offseason, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Pro Bowl linebacker Devin White said Monday, "I got a little selfish," but he has returned with a positive attitude and is focusing on the 2023 season.

"I don't think there's no regret," White said when asked about the request. "I don't think it's just about being paid. It's just about being a guy who was drafted here, and doing a lot for this program. Just want to be the long-term guy, you know, just want to be a guy like Lavonte [David]. He was — he been here forever. I wanted to be that next guy, and you know — we just didn't make it happen when I wanted to.

"And that's why I kind of got a little selfish, even knowing I still had the fifth-year option and that was a thing in place. And I mean, I guess early on, you don't realize that. You just know, like, 'Hey, I'm at the end of my contract — let's get it in. Lock me in. I know I feel comfortable here.’”

According to court documents, Loya faces one count of first-degree rape, five counts of first-degree sexual abuse and one count of third-degree sexual abuse. He was indicted on May 10 in Jefferson County (Kentucky) Circuit Court, pleaded not guilty on May 15 and posted a $50,000 bond. A pre-trial conference is scheduled for Aug. 22.

"We are aware of the serious charges filed in the Commonwealth of Kentucky against Javier Loya, one of our outside limited partners," the Texans said in a statement. "We have agreed with Mr. Loya that while these charges are pending, he will remove himself entirely from any team or League activities."

Loya's attorney, Andrew Sarne, said in a statement to the Houston Chronicle on Monday that his client “unequivocally and categorically denies these allegations and will vigorously defend his innocence." Loya, 53, is the co-founder of OTC Global Holdings and purchased a minority stake in the Texans in 2002, the franchise's first season. Loya's stake in the team is less than 1%, a source told the Associated Press.

He had a pretty good year with the Ravens last year. He should be able to still produce some since Brian Burns will probably be taking most of the heat.

Another great class officially took its place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday. The class of 2023 consisted of Ronde Barber, Don Coryell, Chuck Howley, Joe Klecko, Darrelle Revis, Ken Riley, Joe Thomas, Zach Thomas and DeMarcus Ware. They got their moment in the sun on Saturday afternoon during an enshrinement ceremony at Canton, Ohio.

Coach Doug Pederson said Shatley reported an issue after Wednesday's practice and got immediate treatment. He was held out of Thursday's practice but was back in full uniform for Saturday's practice at EverBank Stadium. Pederson said he would be limited until he receives full medical clearance.

"Everything's calmed down," Pederson said. "From a health standpoint, he's good."

Shatley started 12 games at left guard in 2022 and was working with the first-team offensive line in training camp. He's entering his 10th season, which makes him the longest-tenured Jaguar on the roster.

As the hype train around the Detroit Lions' upcoming season has hit a fever pitch, coach Dan Campbell shared his emotions in a unique way. He referenced Bette Midler's Grammy-winning hit, "Wind Beneath My Wings."

"No, I don't feel weight. I feel wind underneath my freakin' wings, man," Campbell said. "That's what I feel. Truthfully."

For the first time in Ford Field history, season tickets are sold out, the team announced Thursday.

Thursday's altercation happened after his crackback block on linebacker Chance Campbell. Fellow linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair got in Jones' face and the two had to be separated. Jones was ejected from the practice. Titans coach Mike Vrabel said the block would have been a penalty in a game.

"We don't want to practice like that," Vrabel said. "We talk all the time about being competitive and going to that line, and certainly not going to do anything that hurts the team. We don't want to see that."

Jones had gotten into a pushing match with Jeffery Simmons after one of the first plays during team period on Tuesday. The two were separated and kicked out of practice after yanking each other's helmets.

A Nevada judge on Wednesday ordered former NFL cornerback Damon Arnette to appear in person to resolve a felony gun case by pleading guilty to two misdemeanors stemming from an argument with Las Vegas Strip casino valets in January 2022.

"I'm going to need the justification for the agreement," Clark County District Court Judge Ronald Israel told Arnette's attorney, Ross Goodman, before rescheduling a hearing for Monday to accept the plea deal. Goodman protested that similar deals are routinely accepted by judges without the defendant appearing in court. The attorney pointed to a document that Arnette signed last week with prosecutors calling for him to perform 50 hours of community service, pay $2,000 in fines, "forfeit firearm" and "stay out of trouble for go days." Arnette faces up to one year in jail if he violates the agreement.

Goodman added that his client was in talks with the Dallas Cowboys about a contract for the upcoming NFL season.

KJ Hamler announced on his Instagram account he has been diagnosed with a "mild heart irritation, called pericarditis." He said he would miss some time but intended to be back on the field this season after treatment with medication. The Broncos waived Hamler with a non-football illness designation on Monday. Sources told ESPN the move was made to let him undergo treatment and potentially bring him back later if he is cleared.

The news came after Tim Patrick, who missed the 2022 season with a torn right ACL, was carted off the field during Monday's practice and is believed to have suffered a season-ending torn Achilles tendon in his left leg, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Jones, who signed a one-year contract with the Cowboys in March, can continue to practice during training camp and play in preseason games. His suspension takes effect on Sept. 3, and he is eligible to return to the Cowboys on Sept. 18, a day after their Week 2 meeting against the New York Jets. Jones had just 17 carries in six games last year with the Kansas City Chiefs, finishing with 70 yards and a touchdown. His best season came in 2020, when he had 978 yards on 192 carries and seven touchdowns in helping the Tampa Bay Buccaneers win the Super Bowl.

Patrick was carted off the field with the injury and an MRI confirmed the Achilles tear, as first reported by 9News in Denver, meaning the receiver will miss his second consecutive season with an injury. Later Monday, the Broncos took another hit to their wide receiver depth chart when KJ Hamler announced on Instagram that he has been diagnosed with a "mild heart irritation, called pericarditis." He said he would miss some time but intended to be back on the field this season after treatment with medication. Patrick suffered his torn ACL on Aug. 5 last year. Monday, Patrick went to the ground when he made a cut during a 7-on-7 drill and there was no defender near him.

In an interview with USA Today last week, Payton called Hackett's 15-game run with the Broncos last season "one of the worst coaching jobs in the history of the NFL" and said there were "20 dirty hands" around quarterback Russell Wilson's career-worst season that included 16 touchdown passes and a league-high 55 sacks. Payton also jabbed the Jets, suggesting they were infatuated with the "pomp and circumstance" of a blockbuster offseason that included the acquisition of Rodgers. Payton hinted that the Jets were a "dream team" that is doomed to failure.

"It made me feel bad that someone who has accomplished a lot in the league is that insecure that they have to take another man down to set themselves up for some easy fall if it doesn't go well for that team this year," Rodgers told NFL+ in a sit-down interview after practice. "I think it was way out of line, inappropriate, and I think he needs to keep my coaches' names out of his mouth." Rodgers said Payton's comments about Hackett "were very surprising" and out of character "for a coach to do that to another coach."

The Broncos' new coach, hired in the offseason after one season as a Fox Sports analyst, eventually apologized for his remarks, calling them "a mistake." The Jets and Broncos play in Week 5 in Denver.

Hunter will receive $17 million guaranteed, the source said, confirming reporting by NFL Network. Sources said the Vikings had evaluated trade options for Hunter, who had skipped organized team activities and mandatory minicamp as he sought an increase on his $4.9 million base salary for this season prior to the new agreement.

Hunter returned last season after two years of injuries and recorded 10.5 sacks, even after transitioning from a 4-3 defensive end to a 3-4 outside linebacker. Hunter and fellow pass-rusher Marcus Davenport are both playing on one-year deals now, with Davenport making $13 million.
