and I will not be going. Its the time of year for the local convention. I've though about going a few times, but I probably wouldn't talk to anyone, or go to anything, so I don't see the point.

Why wouldn't you talk to anyone or go to anything? Do you have any local meets? I'm going to my first convention later this month - excited!

Because I don't do well in open ended groups of people. A bit of anxiety mixed with just not knowing how to start conversations with strangers.

I understand that, but I guarantee that a lot of furries are in the same boat! I've found that the only way to improve is to get out there. Assuming that's what you want

I'm sure I'm not the only one. I couldn't tell you what I want.

You can go and just enjoy the day by yourself and in your own way. No talking to stranger required unless you want to! Sometimes just a change of scenery can be just what you need.

I mean, if I just want a change of scenery, I can just go for a hike or bikeride like I often do. If I'm going to spend money to go somewhere, I'd like to actually want to go.

That's fair, but you can do those any other time 🙂 Just pointing out that you don't need to do anything you're uncomfortable with or even talk to anyone if you don't want to to have fun doing something. Sometimes just exploring and being in a new environment is rewarding enough.

I know, its just $100 to exist somewhere is a bit more than I would want to spend.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Yeah that's pretty steep if you're not super into it. You'd probably have more fun than you think though so just don't let anxiety ruin what could be a pretty fun time!

I made it there, but didn't end up going do to registration issues.

Bummer, but these things happen. Hope you still ended up having a good day at least!

Just walking up to the hotel and through the lobby was interesting. I was more disappointed than I thought I would have been even though I didn't really plan on going.

It was a nice day out, so I had a nice walk. It would have been nicer if there wasn't an "unruly" passenger on the train ahead of mine causing a 10 min delay.

Sorry to hear it didn't meet your expectations, but at the very least you can make an informed decision next time around if it comes down to it. At least you got a nice walk out of it!

Its interesting how much reading only 1 comment vs the thread changes meaning so much. The disappointment was due to the inability to go, not actually going. Depending on where I end up, I might try to make more of an effort in the future. If I decide to launch my website, I'll probably try to go to a lot to get the word out.

I've only ever been to Further Confusion and they had a fursuit talent show and other events with fursuiters that were fun to watch (year I went the theme was the Olympics, so they did a bunch of olympic-like games in full fursuits).

I don't know how common that is at other furry conventions. FurCon was great though, and I wanna go again despite never really interacting with anyone other than some merch vendors when buying stuff and hating crowds because of my anxiety.

I'll say walking through to registration was interesting, and when I couldn't register I was more disappointed than I thought I would be, especially because I wasn't all that sure I wanted to go in the first place. I don't think I would have done anything, but just being there was unique.
