Here’s my 100 most listened to albums on last.fm for reference of what my taste is like, don’t let that stop you from recommending me things you think I won’t like though I’m trying to expand my horizons.

I also like listening to small artists, I write a series of artist features all about people less than a million Spotify listeners so if you have any recommendations for that lmk.

I haven't heard most of those artists but some of the albums art reminds me of MC Lars

This guy makes amazing epic music. Can't recommend him enough. All his other albums are great as well.

Blackalicious - Blazing Arrow One of the greatest albums of all time. If you like Dilla and DOOM that's the only logical choice.

You'd probably like Paul's Boutique by the Beastie Boys. You may also wanna try Nujabe's Modal Soul.

Upvote for RL Burnside. I'll also suggest his 'i wish I was in heaven sitting down' a very smooth colab between an old Delta bluesman and a DJ

If you're into rap hybridizations, Rage Against the Machine's self titled album is one of my favourite's

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

In two totally different genres : World on Disease by Antagonism and Orelsan et Gringe sont Les Casseurs Flowters by Casseurs Flowters

I's recommend SLIFT's album UMMON. It's an interesting mix of psychedelic-prog rock/metal.

Their other albums are also pretty solid, but Ummon is their best IMO.

Mechanical Keyboard Sounds: Recordings of Bespoke and Customized Mechanical Keyboards

Edit: This is less music, and more relaxation sounds. But I really like it.

Phantomime - Mori Calliope

I see a lot of my favorites in that list. Some of my top albums I don't see:

  • Negro Swan and Cupid Deluxe by blood orange
  • IV by badbadnotgood
  • injury reserve by injury reserve
  • Don't You by Wet (pretty significant vibe shift from the others, maybe you'll like it)

Since you are trying to expand your horizons here's a bunch of weird stuff I like:

  • Paper Kites - Woodland
  • Hawaii Part II
  • Jack Stauber - HiLo
  • Marxist Love Disco Ensemble - MLDE
  • Twin Resurrection - Volume 1
  • Windows 96 - Reflections (tbh any album by Win96 is great)
  • Chikoi The Maid - Leaving Reality
  • Ginger Root - Shinbangumi
  • PilotRedSun - Achievement
  • Date of Birth - Planet Dob
  • Akiko Yano - Tadaima

Suite for Ma Dukes by Miguel Atwood Ferguson. Live recording of a Dilla tribute concert with a 60 piece orchestra. Stakes Is High with Posdnuos and Talib Kweli is a standout. Album is on Bandcamp and the full concert video is on YouTube.

In the World: From Natchez to New York by Olu Dara. He's the father of Nas (who guests on the album) and an accomplished jazz musician in his own right, but this isn't a jazz album. Okra is in my top three songs about food.

Fela Soul by Amerigo Gazaway. A mashup of De La Soul and Fela Kuti. "Music is the weapon. Music is the future. Music is the weapon of the future."

Oh man, speaking of Kweli, his Black Star album with Mos Def needs a mention
