I'm still dumbfounded by the lengths police will bend over backwards to handle a raging Karen with no arrest for over 30 minutes but will shoot a mentally challenged black person from a distance without figuring out what is going on.

There was some reality show about game wardens I caught a bit of years ago, and it was jaw dropping how those cops could go out to the middle of nowhere and come across alleged poachers and trespassers and other criminals who'd still have their hunting rifles in their hands and just have a calm and professional chat with them about the kinds of citations they were going to be getting
Game wardens have superior training and are put in more extreme situations so they actually deescalate situations. Cops are almost always trained in the opposite.
North Woods Law (Maine) or Lone Star Law (Texas)
It would have been the Maine one probably, I remember it was in a heavily forested area (I wasn't the one who put it on the TV and was just doing some holiday visiting when I got sucked into watching it for like five minutes)
To answer the question:
In 2023, Black people were killed at a rate 2.6 times higher than white people, Mapping Police Violence found. Last year, 290 people killed by police were Black, making up 23.5% of victims, while Black Americans make up roughly 14% of the total population. Native Americans were killed at a rate 2.2 times greater than white people, and Latinos were killed at a rate 1.3 times greater.
Oh man, idk. Maybe if 98% of these pigs wouldn’t get away with murdering people, there wouldn’t be that many cases of murdering people in the police force.
Seriously tho. IF I would be a complete fucking psychopath who wants to kill people I would just join the American Police…which might explain the pedos in churches.
Ooooh hey hold on now that’s PROGRESS. It used to be 3x as likely. Down a whole .4. That’s 13% less bad!!! (Please ignore to be more even police had to kill more people.)
But yeah uh, this shit getting titled “violence” as if it’s not talking about murder is wild.
Ah, I didn't even realize this headlines a bit clickbaity, I'll excerpt this up top
Guess I'm late to the party, I didn't think cops crossed the 3 people per day mark, but that was 4 years ago. It's now about 3.25 people killed by cops every day, or 23 people every week. I wonder where the tipping point actually is until something happens to force accountability.
The city of Austin, TX voted for a civilian oversight board to be created. Due to various lawsuits and whatnot, it still has yet to come into existence. All because the cops want to literally get away with murder.
Until they kill a beloved celebrity, there will be insufficient outrage to force change. And even then, it might not matter beyond the specific cops that did it.
We watched cops flip through Facebook while children were screaming for help after being shot. If that didn't break the hold cops have on society I don't know what will.
Trump? At least, it would be interesting to observe how'd republicans rationalize that.
Someone make the community "todays murdered-by-police" so we can see the three every day. We have similar communities but this would be pretty specific.
Is probably good enough. It's rare to get articles in real time about the majority of victims.
Hi there! Looks like you linked to a Lemmy community using a URL instead of its name, which doesn't work well for people on different instances. Try fixing it like this: [email protected]
Oo! Oo! Is it white people? I bet it's white people.
Edit: Read the article. It wasn't white people.
If you use the Latinos are white trick it could be, but I don't see a breakdown to know for sure.
Quite a sleight-of-hand since the real story is who is LEAST affected
