I'm a professor, and for the last week I've been dying over and over again on Sekiro's last boss. No joke...at points I would literally work on my syllabus for the upcoming semester as a break from Sekiro because doing work was less mentally taxing haha. But I did it!And in the process of dying over and over again over an entire week, I had a lightbulb moment about the learning process more generally (maybe I'm being ridiculous and still riding my adrenaline from finally winning, but bear with me). Sekiro is brutally hard, unforgiving, and uncompromising. Especially in that last fight, if your brain misfires for a quarter second, that could be it. But Sekiro isn't hard just to be hard; rather, the game is maybe the "fairest" game I've ever played. If you can learn and react, you'll win. There are no gimmicks. And I think that's why it's so satisfying and why so many people are willing to die hundreds of times doing one small thing over and over again: because it's fair and it's up to you to get good. Consequently, I got a bit further into the fight every night and learned more and kept going. I could feel myself recognizing patterns just a split second faster, and I knew I'd get there eventually. It never felt hopeless.So yeah...I think that applies just as much to a college class as it does to a game: anyone can make something hard. Making something hard is easy. But there's no value in something being hard just to be hard. The value in difficulty is when it's pushing you to get better but always up-front and fair. A few professors I've heard brag about their average class test scores in the 60s should maybe play Sekiro and learn that lesson :)

Although I just beat the game recently this is 100% the most viable move in the game. Not to mention it’s also dirt cheap and one of The first things to buy.

Just finished my first playthrough of Sekiro yesterday. Fantastic. I'm super inspired rn by the characters and bosses that I just want to draw them in a fun mash up way. Probably going to do Demon of Hatred next.

So the other day I was fighting glock saint isshin ng+ for my 50th~ try and got absolutely obliterated, so I smacked my hand down at my side as I do when I get frustrated sometimes... Except my hand didnt hit the bed, it hit my girlfriends thigh at full force. She got pretty angry to say the least, and understandably so.So uh is this a common mistake? Or am I becoming violent?

I'm having so much fun. I don't have friends who play Sekiro, so this sub is the only place to share it with.I finally beat Genichiro and probably in about 14-15 attempts. Way of Tomoe lighting got me the first time and I was out of heals and resurrection. The second time I faced it I got him!Having fought NP, Laxasia, Romeo, Green Monster etc in Lies of P, this felt surprisingly easier (sorry humble bragging). Could also be because parrying/deflecting is somewhat forgiving in Sekiro compared to Lies of P. Hoping the other boss fights also go this well!

I didn’t even recognise him, we shared sake goddamit 😞 I went back to the temple no one there. Realised what he said to me at the end. Everything came back to me, the eavesdrop of him talking about flames. The missing arm on the demon. He even told me I’ll eventually have to kill him and I still couldn’t put it all togetherHow can I call myself a shinobi, I’m a failure 😔 the temple is empty, it’s just me and fujioka now. Curse you fromsoft…
