I mean I wouldn't want to be literally nailed to a stake while I'm still alive.

And then fed vinegar to drink after being out in the hot desert sun for a couple days (or however long, that detail is kinda fuzzy for me).

I think there's a theory that the vinegar was posca, a mix of vinegar and water that was better than straight vinegar. Not that that was really a kindness since he'd survive longer and suffer more

It was essentially the Gatorade of the day, a roman soldier would have been giving him part of their rations, essentially.

Though idk where you're getting the part about suffering more, you don't die from dehydration during crucifixion, you die because you can't breathe anymore.

i think he died before the end of the day?

iirc they break your shins so that you die faster if its taking too long, and there was a prophecy that none of jesus' bones would be broken.
