"He claimed he owned Albert for more than 30 years and normally renewed his permit for the alligator months before its expiration date, but revised regulations and the failure of the DEC to return his phone calls seeking answers to questions regarding them led to the permit's expiration in 2021."

This is bullshit if bureaucracy and unresponsiveness led to the loss of his pet of 30 fucking years.

Probably worth reading another source. This one is leaving quite a bit out.

Yeah. His enclosure hadn’t been cleaned in years and years, he let kids and elderly people swim in his pool and ride the aligator and the guy used UV filters on the windows of the enclosure so the gator had a brutal vitamin D deficiency. It was also obese, malnutritioned and had a spinal deformity as a result. The owner was given many chances to bring the enclosure up to standard which he didn’t do.

Yikes! Then yes, his animal should be taken from him if he's neglecting/abusing it.

You could have just shared that source... I'd like to read it.

I had already read about it elsewhere and didn't have a link nor remember remember enough to explain it. The other comment summarizes it though.

Cavallaro told WIVB-TV the revised regulations require him to buy insurance coverage and tape Albert's mouth shut whenever he is around people. The regulations also require Cavallaro to build a fence around the alligator's enclosure to prevent him from getting loose.

that's insane
