Yeah I’ve done this a few times. I used to work in construction, so jobs would often not be quite what they seemed from the job description, and sometimes the hiring people would lie. At one former job, I found out I was getting paid less than I was told in the interview, so I walked out. One job I worked for a day or two until we had to go up on a roof with bare joists and no one tied off. When I mentioned safety concerns they called me a pussy so I walked off. Nothing is worth falling off a roof into a bunch of construction debris.

Once upon a time I got a job working at a swimming pool supply store. For a total of about 15 min during my very first shift I was in the main room putting price stickers on things and whatnot. For the remaining hours of my shift I was back in the chlorine room filling up chlorine tanks. Tbf the pool store was following regulations as far as I know. I had goggles and gloves and the room had a big ventilation fan and all that. But even still, I got chlorine all over my skin and clothes and was perpetually dehydrated from the fumes. Had to run to the water fountain like a million times. Afterwards I decided there was no way I was going to work with chlorine all day every day until it killed me so the next day I came in and asked the manager if there was any way I could do other work and not be in the chlorine room. He was like, “unfortunately that’s the job”. So I told him, “ok I understand. In that case I don’t think this is going to work out. Thanks for the opportunity though!” And I left after only one shift. Shortest job I ever had.

Stringing them along and wasting more of their time and money was the not a dick option? I'd say that's the be more of a dick option. I'm all for walking out on a shitty job, but it sounds like their worst crime was not giving you as good an offer as somewhere else.

You do not give many details, but you fucked over someone who seems to have done nothing wrong? And you did it as "payback" for something that has nothing to do with them? Not mature at all. The ones you walked out on might have dodged a bullet there.

Just did. I got a remote job (as in it's in the signed contract that I'm a remote worker). I was then told day 1 that the job is hybrid and that I was expected to be in the office 3 days a week. Then last week, when I took my first day remote, I was pulled into a meeting asking where I was. I was then I informed that my bosses boss had decided we were full on prem, which is news to me. Made me very angry how many times they changed my employment status within my first couple of weeks at this place.

I gave them my two week notice a couple of days ago. The feedback I got was they thought it wasn't a big deal. I told them at no point did they ask what my preference was. And that they advertised a remote job.

I'll be starting my new job in another week and that is an actual fully remote job. I hear they are going to lose at least one more person soon because of all these changes.

I was desperate for a job after I had started over in a new city. I had a month to figure out how to pay next months rent. I got a call from Little Caesars to come interview, and as much as I despise food work, I felt I had little other choice.

They put me on the dough for my first day. It was hot and awful. Boring AF too. $8.00/hr. I got a phone call after "lunch" and it was for an interview to run a boost mobile on the other side of town... I walked straight out of Little Caesars and was hired the next day at Boost, which was more to my liking.

Yeah, because the shitheads lied about the job.

"Oh, yeah, you have to go to remote sites, but the average is only about a 20 minute commute."

And then once they gave me the job, they assigned me nothing but clients that were all 60+ minutes out of town. I interviewed with other companies on the clock and then quit with no notice.

Fucking assholes.

Yes. I signed the paperwork, I slept on it for the night and the thing that really eat me up was the salary mentioned the figure but that there would be no OT payouts, not Bonus structure only the salary. Also, I'd have to start going into the office.

My current job with one of the big four, pays those, also gives me free training, bonuses on certifications I receive, bonuses on the renewal of those certs. And fully remote...

Yes... Got a job at a for-profit, predatory college. Lasted one week. It was so toxic and depressing. I worked in their computer lab/library area and wasn't anywhere near recruiting, but sat in meetings where they showed no compassion at all for their students, openly talked shit about other staff members not at the meeting, and were just generally awful. I got another job offer and even though it didn't start for 2 more weeks, I quit on the spot. I was really happy when it closed.

I once quit during orientation.

I was a nurse's assistant. Was looking for better pay than what I had. Applied to a nursing home. They jumped at a big dude with experience.

So, it comes to orientation. We're doing a tour of the place, being given the usual "here's the gloves, here's the laundry" look-see.

This is during the early morning. We come down one hall, and there's patients sitting, naked, in the halls in shower chairs. There's feces on a couple of them. There's feces under some of them.

The admin giving the tour just walks past like this is normal and acceptable.

I'm getting kinda pissed, but I figured that if they were hiring this hard, maybe it wasn't the norm.

We turn the corner, and there's a fucking patient being slapped. Repeatedly.

I flip my shit, start moving towards the douche doing the slapping. It's the fucking director of nursing for the place.

I saw that name tag and told her to expect a call from every damn agency I could think of.

I walked the fuck out, right to a pay phone and called the cops. It didn't amount to anything, since there were obviously witnesses that said I was full of shit.

But the state agencies and dss were not so lax. The place ended up shut down until it got sold to some chain company.

I worked for a short while where there was spraypainting going on. It was indoors, had to wear a mask and help someone get these huge plates into place. Needless to say it was awful. After so many times being there I couldn’t take it anymore and the next day I called and said I wouldn’t come in anymore. The boss was furious. Was a bit of a shitty move of me, did feel a bit bad about it, but after the call such a huge burden was lifted off of me. Boss was a dick anyways. Later I found out I had to come in to get my last paycheck. Was putting it off, I told a friend and he dropped me off there to do it. Was flipping nerve-wrecking walking up to the boss while his back was turned towards me, but I’m lucky I did it after the friend motivated me. Damn the nerves…😅

I’m confused. You said you didn’t want to be a dick so went through with it and then quit. Not that I would ever care about an employer but I think you may not understand what being a dick is. Either way more power to the worker. Fuck them

Worked at a dollar store for a month one summer during college, making minimum wage. 100% the hardest job I've ever worked and for very little, but I couldn't find anything better at the time and needed to try and build some savings for the school year.

If a cheaper worker came around, they would kick you out without a moment‘s hesitation as well, so fuck it.

Does a few weeks count? My first job was at a data entry place, and I quit within two weeks because the place gave me carpal tunnel. It went away soon after I left, even though I got a different office job shortly after.

It's never happened to me, but you've got to look out for #1. If you get a better offer after you've already accepted a job, take that offer anyway.

Month or so ago I was offered a job. It payed better, slight better package of benefits. I accepted it and when I put my two weeks notice into my current employer, they matched it and offered a new position. Two days after accepting the offer, I declined it instead.
