1. FROM (got hooked during the second season. third season is being filmed now. feels reminiscent of LOST but with darker undertones. so far, a frustratingly few answers have been provided, but i’m really rooting for this mystery series. rich characters, great performances and a plot that leaves you trying to figure it all out for days after.)

2. The Killing (surprisingly intelligent cop drama with excellent character dev and great tension)

3. The Terror (first season - based off the 1845 arctic voyage in search of a viable northern passage shipping route and the ship’s subsequent abandonment after getting by stuck in the ice. the end jumps the shark a bit but the acting is excellent. the concept, environment and mood throughout is captivating.)

4. Nathan For You (loved The Rehearsal and The Curse too, but i don’t think he will ever top NFY. plus, he graduated with really good grades)

5. Mrs. Davis (a lucid acid trip down modernized mythology)

6. On Becoming a God in Central Florida (brilliant satire)

7. 12 Monkeys (2015 series. vibrant, gritty sci-fi)

8. The Bridge (original Danish version)

9. River (cerebral detective drama starring Stellan Skarsgard)

10. Waco / The Aftermath (absolutely love Michael Shannon in this respectful retelling of a highly controversial series of events that had a profound impact on american society)

11. The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart (hard to watch but such an important story. feels like a love letter from past to future generations)

forgot to include:

  • The Chosen One (2023. subpar reviews but unique, cinematic and worth the watch imo)
  • Midnight Mass
  • Midnight Gospel
  • The Jinx (an unexpected season 2 is now in production)

have you tried making more money?

thank you. i really should have picked that up by the “send flowers” upsell. can you imagine? in a unlikely set of circumstances, the additional option to have said flowers delivered could trigger a rather unfortunate infinite loop.

i think it’s tricky to get a blanket reading because autism can look so dramatically different from one person to the next. i was diagnosed last year (AuDHD) and have since been learning how varied autism can be across different demographics and comorbidities. when i’m stressed, overworked, and/or overloaded, i tend to withdraw to trigger my hyperfocus. a recent new hire in my department who is pretty clearly also autistic has been driving me nuts because when he is stressed, overworked and overloaded, he tends to try to control everything around him with a hyperfocus on what everyone else is doing, instead of focusing on his own work. to the NT’s in the group, i doubt they would think to put him and myself in the same category.

i fucking hate this. i’ve not so lucidly clicked the idea together before that world leaders would and have prolonged conflict, suffering and death abroad for meager and ephemeral political points back home. what a disaster we are as a species.

that hair is weirding me out. thin, receding hairline in the front yet solid black on the side? must be using the same stylist as giuliani.

i have lowkey hoped for years that some time after his dad dies, barron releases a masterful expose on how his firsthand experiences shaped absolute nihilism in his perspective towards everything. how this all consuming desire to feel something-anything at all-ultimately motivated him to seek a profound journey for truth and the fundamental value of life. detailing his account all the way through self analysis, acknowledgement, acceptance and actualization and healing himself while helping others to do the same.

i have zero reason to believe this will happen but i’m rooting for you, man.

i kinda have a soft spot for mormon missionaries after a noteworthy act of kindness and service i won’t forget.

a story: years ago i was in the process of moving from a 3BR/2-story apartment into a rancher flat on the other side of town. had very little funding and a short window to get it all done by myself. picked up a big moving truck and began loading up the furniture, which required finagling the furniture dolly up and down the indoor flight of stairs plus an additional 3 steps off the porch to the pavement. while loading up a bookcase, two mormon missionaries rounded the corner and started approaching me. i was about to dip inside and close the door when they called out, offering help. they were gentle yet determined to provide assistance and i eventually relented. thanks to their strict gender rules i wasn’t able to be in the apartment with them at the same time, so they did it all themselves, loaded up everything into the truck.

going a step further, they then sent a different duo of mormon boys to my new apartment across town to help unload the same truck. i was so grateful that i spent a few hours afterwards listening to their whole pitch, accepted a copy of their cute book and asked a few respectful questions just to be engaged. They spend their missions with so few comforts and conveniences that it was quite surprising to hear. Had to decline the inevitable invitation to attend a morning service at the temple though… especially after learning they are each 4 hours long. yikes.

regardless, obv the meme is 100% valid and the mormon institution (and their political sway in the US) is undoubtedly troubling, but it was really nice to learn that at least some mormon bois while on mission do actually apply their beliefs through action by genuinely helping people in their community. not everyone can say that.
