Like how cool is it going to be if you could install a mod adding an entire new ship line someone in the community created.

I really look forward to seeing how mods are going to be developed for this game.

Just went through a Starfield experience that sort of awed me. Wanted to capture some pirate ships, I took a mission from Freestar Rangers mission terminal to destroy a "Crimson Fleet Captain." I thought it was a person, but that's the name of a ship.

Engaged the ship, battle was fairly easy, took out their engines with EM weapons and boarded the ship. I was immediately blown away by how big and full of stuff the ship was. I've got a couple class B ships, but this one was probably 5 times the size of my Aegis. There were rooms after rooms, a few big open areas, several kitchens and sitting areas, a medical bay, storerooms, weapon rooms, armor mannequins, and a medium size trek-like bridge. The ship had at least 3 levels, and had probably 10-15 pirates to fight. Got to the captain's chair and was able to sit in it because I had leveled up my pilot skill enough. The ship was mine! I did this sort of thing last week with a smaller but impressive ship, but wasn't able to sit in the chair because my pilot skill was too low, so I had to abandon it.

All the time I was fighting my way through the ship I was saying "oh my god" to myself as I saw how much bigger this ship was than the ones I was used to.

For all it's shortcomings Starfield really nailed the ships, they are very unique and even compare very favorably to ships from Space Engineers, Empyrion, and Elite Dangerous. Elite Dangerous ships might give them some design competition but you can't walk around in them IIRC.

ETA: The ship is apparently originally a Crossbow III, it's not all that huge but compared to the starter ship it's massive: https://inara.cz/starfield/ship/1984/

Kenny Rogers, Zeppelin, Bowie, Tom Waits, KLF, Rob Zombie, They Might Be Giants, Pointer Sisters, Muse, and of course Alestorm.

My loading screen looks like it completes, then it flashes black, displays the loading screen again, but after the flash the loading animation has stopped and the screen is completely locked up.

Edit: It looks like the issue was because I had saved in orbit, I'm not sure if the location matters, but I was orbiting Volii Alpha, loading an earlier save while on the planet worked

So I stole 2 ships yesterday and find it to be lots of fun.

I learned some important things and thought I'd share.

  • When you steal a ship, you have to register it which costs about 9.6k. Apparently you can't sell the ships for much more than that, but I haven't tried yet.

  • If you sit in the pilot seat of the ship, you'll see a message about potentially making it your home ship if you take off. If you do not take off in it and just leave, it does not become one of your ships and will disappear if you leave the planet.

  • if there are ecliptic mercs nearby, attempt to steal the ship before killing them. Sometimes you can, sometimes you cannot. If you kill the mercs, the ship takes off.

  • If the ship is sitting there, it may be empty and ripe for the taking. If there's a crew aboard, there may be something you can do (chat with the captain and get something), but most likely you'll piss off your companion if you just "take care" of them.

True first person, not a floating head but legs arms.

Also respecting first person, so no cinematic cameras for docking and take off landings, ladders, chairs.

Helmets visible like the metro games.

Weapon sights, me choosing between red dot, iron or scope should not effect accuracy.

No weapon sounds in space, also there should be different sound profiles on different planets.

Manuel docking, take off and landing.

Ship building should be less tied down by level and skills, and more focused on budget, make bigger reactors general better parts more expensive rather than adding arbitrary milestones to meet, just confuses the process

Gravity on a space ship should be optional maybe with a module thats distinct purpose is for gravity.

Space walk, I'd love to exit my ship.

Less loading screens. Love starfield but honestly the one nagging issue is that everything takes so long with 6 or so loading screens an hour..

The sqeeky elevator door in neon. Just no

The awful night club music in neon. Sound design department were obviously having a bad day in neon. Not to say the ambiant music is bad as I really like the ambiant sound track in neon.

Anyway I'm about 100hs in and would like to see other thoughts for improvement and maybe see them one day through mods, updates, dlc..

Sooooo, I'm sworn to secrecy about the war criminal in the basement, so I keep looking for an opportunity to take someone with clearance to the side and let them know about the truly nasty shenanigans he's been up to without breaking OpSec. And I keep looking. And then the quest ends.

As best I can tell, the only way to let anyone know about what I've learned is to blab it out in front of people who the state has good reason not to want in on it. In my country of origin, this gets you buried underneath Fort Leavenworth.

Anyone else find this one somewhat devoid of the "right" option? I'm really enjoying this game, but this particular quest strikes me as a missed note.

Has anyone else had issues with there save files? Recently, after performing a save of any kind (quick, normal or exit save) and reloading said save I've been getting teleported back to what I assume is the center of the cell. It's been incredibly annoying and really I don't even want to play the game anymore.

Obvious troubleshooting I've done:

-reboot game

-reboot PC

-verified game files

-reinstalled game (worked for the first quick save then reverted)

-created a new character (worked fine on that character reverted back to my original save and issue kept happening)

Is my original save now cursed?

edit:

Well, I had found an old backup that I made and was able to recover the character, however with a lot of lost progress but better than nothing.

What I think broke my save was setting down the big landing pad with shipbuilder module. After doing this the game started behaving weirdly mixing the cargo from my ship and the outpost. The gas, solid and warehouse cargo also stopped transferring items and lost all fill progress showing a grey led icon.

It might be a reach but after that was when I started seeing the game just lose it.

*CRAP lol it was pointed out that the FOV/brightness/DLSS stuff will come in FUTURE updates. I really should have waited to see the update in action before posting that original title. Was confused at why I couldn't find the settings. Sorry for anyone that got confused by me :(

First, an enormous thank you to all of you playing Starfield and your support. We are absolutely blown away by the response and all you love about the game. We’re also reading all your great feedback on what you’d like to see improved or added to the game. This is a game we’ll be supporting for years and years to come, so please keep all the feedback coming! Even if we don’t get to your requests immediately, we’d love to do it in the future, like city maps. Our priority initially is making sure any top blocker bugs or stability issues are addressed, and adding quality-of-life features that many are asking for.

This first update is a small hotfix targeted at the few top issues were are seeing. After that, expect a regular interval of updates that have top community requested features including: Brightness and Contrast controls HDR Calibration Menu FOV Slider Nvidia DLSS Support (PC) 32:9 Ultrawide Monitor Support (PC) Eat button for food!

We’re also working closely with Nvidia, AMD, and Intel on driver support, and each update will include new stability and performance improvements. Additionally, we are working on our built-in mod support (Creations) that will work across all platforms similar to what we’ve done with Skyrim and Fallout 4. This full support is planned to launch early next year. Until then, we know our PC community is already very active in the modding space and if you have any feedback on how we can make this better, please let us know . Modding and creating in our games will always be a vital and important part of who we are, and we love seeing the community get off to such a strong start. Keep the feedback coming, we really do read it all, and thank you all again for taking this journey with us!

The crucial bit:

The fix is applying a negative mipmap bias into the game when upscaling is enabled. Mipmaps are used to generate gradually decreasing resolution textures, often used as a way to scale textures the further away from the player's view they land. It's recommended to set a negative mipmap bias to "generate a better texture detail" with upscaling enabled, and that's advice coming from AMD direct.

Yes, this mod simply follows AMD's own recommendations for upscaling as listed on the FSR 2 GitHub page and applies that to Starfield. It's a strange one, to say the least, as Bethesda partnered with AMD for Starfield, so you'd think would have all these technical details wrapped up. Of course, we don't really know why this wasn't set at the game's launch.

"Look me in the eyes and tell me why you did it."

You should fucking know, Commander. 500 credits. That's why.

Remember when you pulled me aside and sat me down for our little chat through the glass? I told you, all I wanted to do was pay my 500c bounty and go.

You said, no, not this time.

You said, I want dirt on the Fleet.

You said, I want to take down the Fleet, and you're going to help me.

You know what they say about negative bias, and that was a real fucking negative introduction.

That brings us to now, with my gun pointed at your head, my new associates eyeing gleefully their new quarters aboard this august vessel.

Look me in the eyes, motherfucker. Because I like that look when you realize you vastly fucked up. Your command is ours now. Half your men are dead, the other half in lifeboats.

All over 500 credits.

Boys, haul him off.
