Have you got ship parts in your cargo hold? That's usually the problem I have

What's a "ship hold", and which parts do I need?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ship parts are an item like med kits, but for ships. You can buy them from some merchants or sometimes loot them from destroyed ships. If it's in the cargo hold of your ship you can use them. You can enter the ship's hold a number of ways. In the start menu go to ship and you see a button to enter the cargo hold on the bottom right. There you can store or take items from your cargo hold like you're trading with a companion, as long as you're in a radius of 250 meters of your ship. There's also a blueish computer screen in your ship's cockpit where you can enter the cargo hold, in the frontier it's on the left on the wall just before your piloting seat.

Doing the lords work here lol. Thanks.

There’s a type of aid item simply referred to as “ship parts.” Places like Jemison Mercantile and UC Distribution Center sell them sometimes, and you may even earn them by helping UC/Freestar ships beat up hostiles in random encounters.

Edit: and don’t keep them in your on-foot inventory, they weigh 10 kilos each.

Each ship has a cargo hold that you can dump stuff in. From the 2 ships I've been in (Frontier and Shieldbreaker) you can access the cargo hold from a computer to the left of the pilot seat. If you buy or find Ship Parts (the name of the item), you'd have to go to your characters Aid section, and move them to your ship's cargo hold. Then the button shouldn't be greyed out anymore.

I want to add that you can enter the cargo hold by going to the Menu (Tab on PC), then click on lower left where your ship is and see the cargo hold (F on PC)

You can also move things from the cargo hold to your inventory even if you're outside of your ship, I don't remember if you can do so the other way around.

You need to have ship parts in your ships cargo.

They are under the 'Aid' section.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Which parts? Where is my "ships cargo" and the "'Aid' section"?

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Since nobody else has said it, 'ship parts' is the item name, not referring to any specific parts. It's a general resource for on-the-fly ship repairs.

Gotcha, thanks.

Haven't found any yet but I'll look it up.

When you help one of the big two factions in a dog fight that you run across randomly they'll usually hail you and you can ask for ship parts (if they survived). Some vendors have them. Sometimes they drop in wreckage after destroying a ship. They're fairly common when boarding a ship and looting the cargo hold.

The cargo hold is a small screen you can find in the cockpit that you can open like a storage. It's not the captain's locker.

Go to your cockpit. There should be a cargo hold panel there. Buy the ship parts from vendors and put them into your cargo hold via the panel in your cockpit. Then once you've lost hull press O on your keyboard(iunno controller equivalent).

Push down the right stick on the controller.

You can also enter your ship cargo from the "ship" section of the menu.

You'll be able to find the menu with ease, going into that is like 90% of the game.

I fly with a controller but do everything else with M&KB, so I appreciate the both of you.

You have "Ship Parts" right?

I've noticed it will be grayed out, but as long as I actually have parts I can still repair.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It took me so long to figure out that I needed ship parts for repairing! I was hoping for a message when trying. If there was a message, I didn't see it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I think there's a tutorial window that shows up the first time you take damage in combat

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Just pay 1000 credits to get it repaired at a port, then go blow up some ships and salvage ship parts.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Do you have Ship Parts in your cargo hold? Pushing 0 should let you repair. Also a Ship Services Technician will gladly take 1000 credits to repair as well

Its actually "O" on PC. Yeah, confuses the hell out of me too!
