Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color

Why is the title different?

We like to have fun here.

What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.

What are the basic rules of the community?

  1. Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.

  2. This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.

  3. Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.

  4. No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.

  5. Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.

FAQ

call kamala a coon if you want but saying shes less black because shes a ghoul is inherently antiblack. remember joe bidens "if you dont vote for me you aint black jack?" yeah dont to the exact same thing, please. black people are human not a monolith hivemind, black people can be evil like any other human and it doesn't make them less black. it can make them a traitor to their community but its important to know that respectability politics WONT work. you can never bow and scrape your way out of blackness. repeat offenders will be banned i need some of yall (you hopefully know who you are) to be more normal if we are ever gonna get more black women on here.

It is interesting theyre only commenting on her blackness when she's biracial and wears a blow out 24/7...

[–] [email protected] 22 points 3 months ago (1 children)

yeah no one would ever say shes less indian for being a lib, although most indian people already dont claim her because shes also black, if she was half Indian and half white they would claim her. which its why its so funny when libs do the whole "kamala will appeal to asian voters because shes indian" lolololol. yeah sure.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 3 months ago

Preach. Sure, she has a diverse background, but let's not pretend Indians (or really any other Asian-Americans) will be enticed to vote for her solely due to her Indian heritage.

E X A C T L Y !

I have been on that tip for awhile. The whole "BLACK EXCELLENCE®©™" thing to me is exactly this. Becoming the first black CEO of a Nightmare Industry MEGACORP doesn't make one less black at all, it just means your black, and it means your evil. You're not evil because your black, and your blackness doesn't shield you from your evil.

I don't like how everything to meme but it's literally the " 👏 MORE 👏 WOMEN 👏 DRONE 👏 PILOTS 👏" thing.

What's the line on food insults (banana, coconut, Oreo)? For example, calling someone a banana is mostly an insult on how that Asian person is whitewashed and isn't in touch with their roots. Is there a difference between saying a POC is whitewashed and saying a POC is not a POC due to X reasons because those are two very different things to me.

Or is your point that even though Harris has shitty politics, she isn't particularly whitewashed and is just a Black/Blasian woman with terrible politics?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

ok yes terms like banana and criticizing someone for being out of touch with their culture is fine, but you cant invalidate someone's POC status. You can understand why we would not want that to be normalized around here. also we all agree that a lot of the policing of the behavior of POC is very cringe (like saying someone acts white for listening to a certain music genre, or just not meeting a stereotypical expectation.) there will be no hard ban on words but issues will be dealt with on a case by case basis. in short you can't say someone who is unambiguously poc is white, but you can make fun of them for being out of touch with their respective communities. Edit sorry had to check something first

Me wearing traditional clothes: who would've thought that wearing clothes made by people who are used to this climate is actually very cool in this climate.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 months ago

My favorite thing to do is borrow traditional clothes from climates similar to mine. Most mexican ranch clothes is great for the heat but good for the cold. But then I found a Keffiyeh and it’s used in very wide temperature range desert. Is perfect for the mornings and late in the day since you can cover more of your head.

Stupid, huh...

Edited: In my view, I thought if ye're near a vineyard, getting the grapes there should be cheaper

I thought the same logic applied to those clothes

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

the stuff uses materials and properly paid workers doing manual labor and skill, unlike a tshirt made in a nike sweatshop

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago

Hmmm... that's good at least. My apologies!

[–] [email protected] 19 points 3 months ago (2 children)

idk how to describe this feeling too well, but like, sometimes it just feels weird being a brown man in a white man's world. some wonder bread ass mfers can just go anywhere they want, actively change and warp places, culture, even memory for nothing more than their idle enjoyment

[–] [email protected] 17 points 3 months ago (2 children)

i'm just in a weird position in life where i feel my lack of social mobility and see people born to so much more than I was and feel paralyzed i guess? is god a white supremacist? why does it feel like every place that had the misfortune to be colonized is doomed to die like this. so many people hurt because they were born in a place that was too beautiful for them, for the bad luck of being born in a place near a beach. that's all it took for americans (tho many others) to continuously destroy so many

[–] [email protected] 15 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I know right, and if you manage to be one of the lucky ones who goes out and sees the world you'd get called a slur, you'd get checked by airports and you won't afford shit in that country if it's a global north one.

That's literally been my whole deal with Kamala since day one. Attack her for all her bad political choices and how she upholds the status quo, do not attack her for being a woman or being black or being a black woman. It's that simple. Viciously critique her on the stuff she says and does, other stuff just seems unnecessary. All this "is she black enough" or is she "too black" or the alterative "woman enough/not woman enough" is all plainly wack to me. She's a cop, deeply uncharismatic, and generally everything wrong about the modern DNC, that's all more than enough to dunk on her for in my book. All the "IDENTITY™©®" stuff I think one can leave out without losing any meaningful argument.

I have been going to my local library and checking out a ton of books on nerd shit. Trying to get more well-read and reading a bunch of more this year. My plan is to write my own video game world full of cool nerd-ass lore with cool pro-black undertones and themes in a fantasy realm without the lame "this thing X is obviously just the author's stand-in for black thought". As such I'm just reading more em_poc fantasy authors, and there are a TON (which is both cool and good). It's crazy how easy it is finding the types of books, just going to my local library and asking the staff.

Go to your local library, it rules.

Reminder:

Local libraries are under attack nation-wide.

Please patronize them and hopefully work at them or get elected to your library board, idk

Libraries are attacked by evangelicals. Want to be anti-evangelical? Be pro-library. 😎

Black femcels annoy the shit out of me. They aren’t even mad at the patriarchy. They are mad at the patriarchy isn’t working for them the way they want it to.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

Could you tell us more ? I have like 0 connections to the world of black femcels and Im curious. Like I kinda know what an incel is...what do I have to imagine is a black femcel ?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

so black femcels are women (cis and trans, theres lots of trans women actually), who can't find a happy healthy relationship. The types of femcels are varied and different online spaces have wildly different vibes. black and poc femcels usually make their own space because white femcels are racist. black femcels tend to blame all their problems on black men, claiming all black men cheat and lie, some of them say "actully elite black billionaires have black wives, so its only "low-value" black men who are trash. some black femcels are anti black lives matter because why should black women support a cause to stop mostly black men from being murdered, when "they would never do the same for us". femcels hate men but desperately want relationships with them. some of them go the doomer route swearing off all men some do the lookmaxing vindicta route where they sometimes pay women to teach them to become "high value women" and spend thousands on glow ups at the medispa and make "am I ugly post, what should I improve" for other femcels to rank. and they advise eachother to be mean to men to make them like you and to never date a man who makes less then 100k or hes not high value. there are also divesters who insist that "divesting" from black men is the key to happiness and if they can only find a nonblack (ideally white) they would treat them well, and pay for all their stuff and, "allow them to step into their feminine energy", ideally make them a housewife, be hyper masculine but without the misogyny, ect. this kinda gets into @[email protected] question,

What does this even mean for them? Like dudes fetishizing black women more and treating them as a trophy wife?

lots of black femcels have convinced themselves that every average-looking white girl that isnt "in her masculine energy" is living a dream life, with a man who is a perfect masculine gentlemen who pays for everything and ask for nothing and never cheats or lies and will solve all their problems. Basically they want to be their fantasy idea of how good white women have it. ive met quite a few divesters IRL because my partner is cuban (his dads black but you couldn't tell looking at him) and they always ask how "how much better it is" but yeah theres a lot of them, you just never hear about them because they aren't out here doing mass shootings like men are. and they get banned a lot.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago

there are also divesters who insist that "divesting" from black men is the key to happiness and if they can only find a nonblack (ideally white) they would treat them well,

I swear every community has some equivalent of divestors. At the end of the day, they all spew a bunch of bullshit just to say they only want to date white dudes. I suppose it works out because the POC men are better off without them. Feel sorry for their kids though because you know their kids are going to be fucked up.

also reading a book on pre-colonial African history. it makes a good point on how (usually) Western historians rely on archaeological information (remaining structures, their age and design, etc.) that created a portrayal of distinct tribes as seemingly living as one large group because those structures were still intact (conflicts in sub-Saharan Africa were generally far smaller, over minor issues and were quickly resolved).

ironically makes a point on the heavy overlap between Western imperialism and cultural assimilation through the destruction and erection of their own cultural symbols over others.

3 weeks into my third wolf session (over 2 months) and my 360 waves are finally properly developing!

  • the waves on my front-left and front-right are very deep (all the hairs form a wave pattern if i brush a little). sleeping on one side probably helped a lot too.
  • the waves on my back are more "wavy" than waves so not very deep.
    • find it difficult brushing the back bc you have to curve each stroke down your head (try it if you don't understand) rather than just pushing the brush in one direction otherwise you miss most of your hairs.
  • the waves on my front are like a month behind the rest of my hair lol. not very visible but they're getting there. idk why bc brushing that side is so simple compared to the other angles but my guess is sleeping on my back and sides and not my front made a huge difference over time

my focus now is on my front and back waves to get them to catch up with my front sides. after that i think i should be good for another cut but i'll wait it out and maybe switch to a harder brush. i'm also experimenting with 2 rather than 1 weekly wash-n-style's so hopefully that helps too!

i am really struggling to stop vaping weed so much. any advice/encouragement?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I hate to admit it but that 2 week T break I took was so fulfilling. I learned a lot about my habits and made some adjustments now so I can have a healthier relationship with the devils lettuce. Even if it's 5 days or 1 day, a T break can teach you a lot. Also what helped my break was knowing it wasn't forever, so there was something to look forward to at the end of it : ).

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 months ago

Thanks comrade I’ll keep that in mind!

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I don't smoke so I couldn't be much help on such a question, best I'd suggest is that when you're trying to cut back you aught find a healthy, productive, or enjoyably distracting to do whenever you feel the urge to vape and slowly work on making it a habit that replaces vaping

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

maybe gum or something with my mouth, i think i have a bit of a oral fixation lol. thanks!

lol yeah probably

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 months ago (2 children)

I really struggle to take t breaks, since I sadly rely on it quite a lot for my day to day emotional regulation, but I've had great success reducing my tolerance by switching to edibles. Due to the edible high taking a couple hours to come in, it doesn't fullfil that addictive need for instant gratification as much, which stops me from using it during anxiety flare-ups and other stressful situations. Additionally, the edible high can last for hours and feel quite intense compared to a smoking high, so I tend to become naturally more careful with my dosage to avoid being completely knocked out for half a day. Over the course of a couple of weeks my usage tends to reduce by at least half. I also keep a little graph I update every day with my usage, which motivates me to make the line trend downwards.

The biggest downside is that if you aren't able to buy pre-made edibles, infusing butter from the flower is an hours long process that is super exhausting (at least to me as a disabled person), so I tend to slip back into smoking once my current batch runs out. Also it won't help much with the oral fixation part of it, so you might have to find a way to deal with that part as well.

Every once in a while I see a post from a liberal and remember "oh shit they really think Arabs behead women for drinking soda"

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (2 children)

Soda's a nice drink tho (without the sugar and unneeded chemicals, at its base, soda is carbonated water)

And it's not haram, what's the deal with those libs? Are they Frnsy*, in particular?

Speaking of the F-word, they recognized the DPRK at the Olympics introduction
