As early as 1935, Alfred Finnie, a gay Black man in Chicago, was throwing glamorous Halloween balls on the city’s South Side.

hilarious show w/ ties to Chicago:

Carl Kolchak is a reporter for a Chicago newspaper. Through more accident than design he ends up investigating homicides, many of which involve supernatural forces. Ultimately, rather than reporting on the crimes, he solves them.

--

Came across this show recently and it has been a hilarious watch, especially for October! My partner is a journalist and gets quite a kick out of it! If you are an X-Files fan you might be interested, as Chris Carter cited Kolchak as a "tremendous influence" in creating his franchise The X-Files.

It's available via Peacock or the high seas :) Enjoy!

Wicker Park Neighborhood Walk (Accessible)

Meet at Churchill Park!

We will be walking around the park and neighborhood searching for fungi in wood-chips, flowerbeds, and on big trees.

This is a walk that will take place on paved paths and is an accessible option for folks with disabilities.

If you are curious about joining our club, all you have to do is show up! We will welcome you, walk with you, and learn together with you. We are all about open-access to education for all.

If you’re shy, quiet, outgoing, anxious, whatever; we have no expectations, and just hope to see you enjoy the nature around us. And hopefully you can learn something along the way!

Our meetups are family friendly, queer friendly, relaxed, and free!

Please keep in mind that we will be stopping frequently during our walk, which may be obnoxious to younger folks. When we find something, we stop to discuss our find. It is best if the group all stays together so everyone can see and hear!

Forays on public land mean harvesting is okay! So if we find anything scientifically significant we can collect it and send it off to have its DNA sequenced.
