(Reuters) - New Mexico's attorney general has charged a police officer with voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of a Black nurse during a struggle last year in which police say the nurse took an officer's taser.

Las Cruces police officer Brad Lunsford allegedly shot Presley Eze, a 36-year-old Connecticut man working in a Las Cruces nursing home, in the back of the head in August 2022 at a gas station. The officers had stopped Eze after an employee reported he shoplifted a beer from the station, according to police records and video.

State Attorney General Raul Torrez on Tuesday said the killing was an unjustifiable use of force and another example of "poor police tactics."

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A former police officer asked a federal judge for mercy on Wednesday after being accused of sexually abusing people he’d arrested. The former officer was already charged locally. Additional federal charges resulted in prosecutors asking for the defendant to remain locked up until trial.

According to the court record, Marcellis Blackwell’s phone also has videos of unidentified victims he arrested. That was part of the federal prosecutor’s argument in court Wednesday, asking for Blackwell to stay in jail.

Police constable Ravi Canhye, who serves with Dorset Police, has been found guilty by jury of eight sexual offences including two counts of rape.

The 47-year-old from Poole will return to Winchester Crown Court on Thursday, October 5, to be sentenced.

A former Tennessee Sheriff’s Officer captain has been arrested after she was accused of shooting a pest control salesman she suspected was really a hitman, according to authorities.

On Sept. 27, detectives responded to a shooting at a residence in Cordova, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials said one man was transported to an area hospital in critical condition and one woman, later identified as Monica Johnson, was detained.

A former police officer accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy has lost his bid for bail after being allegedly found with child abuse material on his phone.

Mark Ward, 48, was arrested in June this year after being accused of arranging to meet at the boy's home for sex in 2018 while his mother was out.

PC Gary Scott, 50, has been charged with three counts of indecent assault on a 14-year-old boy which are alleged to have happened between 2001 and 2003.

Scott, who worked on a response team in Rotherham, was not working in policing at the time of the alleged offences.

Pc Ravi Canhye, who serves with Dorset Police, was convicted of two charges of rape, one count of attempted rape, three charges of assault of penetration and sexual assault against her and against the second woman.

South Yorkshire PC Gary Scott, 50, is accused of carrying out three counts of indecent assault between 2001 and 2003, when he was not a police officer.

PC Scott, who was a response officer in Rotherham, was arrested last September, after a report was made to the force's Professional Standards Department.

He has been suspended from duty and will appear before Sheffield Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

The program was about education. But it was also about surveillance.

A former police officer has been accused of abusing his power in order to detain eight men and sexually assault them.

Marcellis Blackwell, 34, an officer who used to work for North County Police Cooperative in Missouri, was indicted on 21 federal charges on 27 September for the alleged sexual assaults between November 2022 and June 2023.

Sixteen of those counts are for deprivation of rights under the colour of law, meaning he willingly deprived a person of rights over their body.

LETCHER COUNTY, Kentucky — The jury trial for a former Letcher County deputy sheriff will begin next week.

Ben Fields is charged with two counts of third-degree rape, two counts of third-degree sodomy, three counts of tampering with a prisoner monitoring device and second-degree perjury.

The charges stem from allegations that Fields offered to help multiple women on home incarceration in exchange for sexual favors between 2021 and 2022.

ROCK HILL, S.C. — A Rock Hill police officer has been fired from the department for allegations regarding child sex abuse material.

Daniel Shealy is accused of possessing and distributing child sex abuse material online.

On Thursday, investigators with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force met with Shealy to discuss the investigation into the accusations.

Possible rape charges against an officer with the Morton Police Department are being considered by the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office.

A charging decision had not been made as of Thursday, Sept. 28.

The Chronicle is choosing not to name the officer at this time because he is not facing criminal charges.

A one time police officer in St. Louis, Missouri is facing a federal investigation after being accused of sexually assaulting eight men he had detained or arrested over an eight-month period.

According to a statement released by the U.S. Attorney's Office, Eastern District of Missouri, former North County Police cooperative officer Marcellis Blackwell — previously known as Willis Green Overstreet III — was indicted on 21 federal charges Wednesday accusing him of sexually assaulting the men between Nov. 8, 2022 and June 5, 2023.

The indictments include 16 counts of deprivation of rights under color of law, meaning to willfully deprive a person of a right to self-determination over one's body and five counts of altering records in a federal investigation.

A police officer has told his rape trial a woman accused him after he said their consensual sex was a mistake.

PC Ravi Canhye, 47, is charged with carrying out a series of sexual attacks in April 2022.

The Dorset officer slapped and bit the woman like an "animal", Winchester Crown Court previously heard.

He denies two rapes, three assaults by penetration, an attempted rape and a sexual assault, as well as a sexual assault on another woman.

PC Canhye, from Poole, "span out of control" after drinking excessively over the course of a weekend, prosecutors previously said.

He raped his friend and threatened to abuse her, the jury previously heard.

Today, Friday 29th September, the Police Service of Northern Ireland has acknowledged the sentence handed down to a former police officer at Laganside Crown Court.

The man, who cannot be named in order to protect the victim’s identity, was sentenced to five years, after being found guilty of two counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault. He will serve two years and six months in prison and two years and six months on licence. He will also be placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.

Earlier today, in federal court in Brooklyn, Timothy Martinez was sentenced by United States District Judge Frederic Block to 15 years in prison for two counts of sexual exploitation and attempted sexual exploitation of a minor, one count of attempted receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. Martinez was employed as a police officer by the New York City Police Department and immediately prior to his arrest, was a sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves. Martinez was convicted by a federal jury in May 2023 following a one-week trial.

Breon Peace, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, Ivan J. Arvelo, Special Agent-in-Charge, Homeland Security Investigations, New York, and Edward A. Caban, Commissioner, New York City Police Department (NYPD), announced the sentence.

MODESTO, Calif. — A Stanislaus County deputy is on leave after he was accused of sexually abusing a teen, officials said.

According to the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department, 40-year-old Matthew Dessert of Oakdale was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on charges that include continued sexual abuse of a child, lewd and lascivious acts with a minor 14 or 15 years of age, penetration with a foreign object of a victim under the age of 18, sexual battery and physical abuse of a child.

ST. LOUIS – A former officer with the North County Police Cooperative was accused in an indictment Wednesday of sexually assaulting men that he’d detained or arrested.

Marcellis Blackwell, 34, of St. Louis, was indicted on 21 felony counts: 16 counts of deprivation of rights under color of law, namely the right to bodily integrity, and five counts of altering records in a federal investigation. The indictment says that between Nov. 8, 2022 and June 5, 2023, Blackwell fondled the genitals of eight men who he had detained or handcuffed, committing abusive sexual contact. Blackwell also is accused in the indictment of sodomizing one of the men with his finger, an act of aggravated sexual abuse. The indictment also says Blackwell kidnapped the men and turned off his body camera prior to some of the incidents.

Jacksonville, Florida – Chief United States District Court Judge Timothy J. Corrigan has sentenced Alejandro Carmona-Fonseca (49, Green Cove Springs) to 11 years and 8 months in federal prison, followed by15 years of supervised release, for attempted online enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity. Carmona-Fonseca had pleaded guilty on December 14, 2022. He has been detained since his arrest on June 6, 2022. Carmona-Fonseca had been employed as an officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO).

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - An Arkansas man who previously served as the St. Paul chief of police was convicted Tuesday of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor.

Nicholas J. Hunnicutt’s conviction comes almost six years after the law enforcement officer was arrested in Arkansas for the November 2015 incident.

According to the Department of Law, Hunnicutt inappropriately touched a 14-year-old minor on the island of St. Paul.

Riverside County officials are accused of bribing sexual assault victims in exchange for their silence.

According to court documents filed in Riverside County on Monday by attorneys representing two women, the victims were allegedly subjected to sexual abuse, harassment, and intimidation by Christian Phillip Heidecker between March and April of 2023, during which Heidecker was a correctional deputy with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Three Baton Rogue, Louisiana, police officers are on administrative leave after a series of federal lawsuits exposing the abuse and sexual humiliation taking place at an unmarked torture warehouse known as the “Brave Cave” that was operated by members of the Baton Rouge police department (BRPD).

Baton Rouge’s police chief, Murphy Paul, told city councilors on Wednesday night that the department would hold itself accountable as the FBI investigates alleged civil rights violations at the agency stemming from the “allegations that members of the department may have abused their authority”.

Paul noted during the meeting that the Brave Cave, which had been used to process “prisoners” after an arrest, had received nine complaints, four of which resulted in criminal investigations, the Advocate reported.

The Windsor Police Service has arrested and charged one of its officers after a criminal harassment investigation.

Const. Joshua Smith, a five-year veteran of WPS, was arrested on Monday following a complaint of alleged harassing behaviour.

Police say the officer and victim are known to each other. The harassment is alleged to have occurred while the officer was off-duty.

A former police officer has admitted to multiple sexual assaults on a night out. Former police constable Mark Slade assaulted five victims by touching them without their consent on a night out in Maidstone, Kent, in January this year.

Slade, 48, was based at the West Mercia Police headquarters in Hindlip, Worcestershire, at the time of the offences. He pleaded guilty to five counts of sexual assault by touching at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on Monday, the force said, and will be sentenced at the town’s Crown Court on a date to be confirmed.
