I was thinking about Rome and there is one place that’s a 17th century church, on top of 14th century monastery on top of a 1st century apartment. And if you go to the Forum section it’s visibly below the surface of the current city.

For the fact that the city has been active for thousands of years, how do things end up getting buried? Does that mean the elevation of the city is higher now than it was in 0 AD?

The famous Italian artist Caravaggio was a criminal who was constantly getting in to street fights in 16th century Rome. He even murdered a man in a dispute over a tennis match. Was this kind of street justice the norm in Rome at the time with arguments between men being settled by a sword fights?

This question is probably very broad. But I really mostly would be interested in a website or source that collects various styles, with pictures. And specifically not modernised versions, but ideally historically accurate.
