Werte Kollegen.

I need CUDA on Workstation for an offline open source AI training tool. Running the Nvidia bin blob is trash with how often fedora updates the kernel. The automated kernel module build is awesome, but now I need CUDA and the documentation is all over the place and outdated. I know it is because it is shitvidia. AMD doesn't make competitive laptop hardware with 16GB of GPU memory or more and nothing with full CUDA compatibility with HIPS yet. I'm disabled where a laptop is the only option for ergonomics. Does anyone here know a proven path for sustainable CUDA on Fedora?

Hi everyone,

I’m a happy Fedora 38 user on my Surface Go 1.

In fact I’m so happy with it that I just wanted to clone the whole thing with Clonezilla and put it on my girlfriend’s MacBook Pro which has reached end of life support for MacOs.

Sadly on the Surface Go it’s almost impossible to boot from an USB drive (had to rely on windows recovery to do it the first time, might be usb-a to usb-c adaptor related) and I’ll really have to do a clean install on her Mac.

For such situations, I find it crazy that you don’t have an effective graphic tool to fo an easy backup. Especially because Fedora is so great for everything else.

You could say, use Timeshift, but it would mean doing some alterations I’m not at ease with as I don’t want to end up destroying the system I’m trying to backup and clone.

Does anyone know if it’s on the developers roadmap?

Hi guys, I dont use podman on one of my machines is it safe to remove or do some other built-in apps use it? Noticed there's a lot of packages installed just for podman

Hi everyone,

My girlfriend has a 2012 MacBook Pro and she can’t macOS updates anymore because it’s Applecrap.

So I’ll dualboot Fedora and MacOS. We’ll keep macOS just for a few exceptions like iPhone backup.

I already have a Fedora installation on my Surface Go 1 and I took a lot of time setting it up perfectly. Is there any way to « clone » that installation on the MacBook so that I don’t have to go through everything again?

This version has fixes for various boot, shutdown, kernel panics, and more regressions present on amd systems in 6.3. It also features the new Guided P-state but until someone provides a comprehensive guide for how to set up I have no idea how to use it.

After distro hoping for a while I really feel like Fedora is what desktop Linux should be. Funny because I tried fedora years ago back on 31 or 32 and I hated it

On KDE, it’s a lot better, only issue is that those apps aren’t scaled there, on gnome it’s just horrible.

How is development there going?

Resolved: ostree 2023.4-2 (as linked in the comments below) has been pushed to stable, updating your system will resolve the issue.

Tl;dr: There seems to be a bug in ostree-libs 2023.4 that causes errors when trying to update flatpaks, gnome software loads forever when trying to update a flatpak and manually running flatpak update shows errors (I was getting an "input buffer too small" error, others seemed to be getting errors like "Need more input".)

Running sudo dnf downgrade ostree worked perfectly for me, I'll be ignoring the ostree/ostree-libs update for now and hopefully the issue will be resolved soon.

Hello people posting nostalgic screenshots of CDE and whatnot. You have checked the accessability settings in Gnome haven't you?

Accessability isn't only for people with disabilities. It also helps people with good taste.

just trying to gauge interest for a gtk4 libadwaita based lemmy client for the desktop and mobile linux. Anyone on here that would be interested in the development of such a project?

Like the title says, does anyone know how to give systemd services a secret?

For example: postgresql.bu

variant: fcos
version: 1.4.0
storage:
  directories:
    - path: /opt/services/postgres/data
      overwrite: true
      mode: 0755
systemd:
  units:
    - name: postgres.service
      enabled: true
      contents: |
        [Unit]
        Description=The PostgreSQL object-relational database system
        Wants=network-online.target
        After=network-online.target

        [Service]
        Type=notify
        NotifyAccess=all
        Restart=on-failure
        RestartSec=60
        ExecStartPre=-/bin/podman kill postgres
        ExecStartPre=-/bin/podman rm postgres
        ExecStartPre=/bin/podman pull docker.io/library/postgres:15
        ExecStart=/bin/podman run --name postgres \
            --volume /opt/services/postgres/data:/var/lib/postgresql/data:z \
            --env POSTGRES_USER=admin \
            --env POSTGRES_PASSWORD=admin \
            --env POSTGRES_DB=admin \
            --replace --sdnotify=conmon \
            --publish 0.0.0.0:5432:5432/tcp \
            --restart=unless-stopped \
            --log-level info \
            docker.io/library/postgres:15

        [Install]
        WantedBy=multi-user.target

If that is my SystemD unit file, can I replace:

env POSTGRES_PASSWORD=admin with a value that is discovered at runtime?
