Noticed I got banned by the admins from lemmy.world shower thoughts yesterday. The admins have an interesting reason though.

Over the next few weeks, we're facing another server change. I'm doing everything to optimize costs and prepare the instance for long-term operation. More details are available on the status page I'm currently working on.

This week, I also refreshed the project's code, and it seems like I'm slowly getting back on track regarding health matters.

Good morning, last week we managed to address pressing issues related to infrastructure. Thank you once again for your assistance, Piotr. I will continue work in this area, but it will be less invasive and cumbersome. I have restored the test environments and am slowly getting back into coding.

Today, I will start by organizing abandoned magazines, mag mods requests, checking user account deletions, etc.

This week, additional global moderators will be added to the instance. Tomorrow, there will also be a post where you can submit your candidacy.

Additionally, this week, a Status page will be introduced - where you can check for any instance outages and their repair status.

Various communication issues still remain before I dive into the code. But overall, things are progressing more and more rapidly. I will also try to provide more frequent updates.

Hi, as a new Kbin/Mbin user, I have some questions regarding its use. I hope you can help me out.

1. Can searches be made more specific? On Lemmy, you could define whether you wanted to search for communities/magazines, threads, comments, users and urls. Furthermore, you could search in only a specified community or posts made by a specified user. Lastly, you can change the result order (newest/controversial/oldest).

2. To send toots/tweets, do I have to specify a magazine? I seem to be unable to send a toot without specifying a magazine first, although I only try to adress a mastodon user directly.

3. Is this even the right magazine to ask these questions in? Is there a dedicated kbin support magazine?

4. On Lemmy, users can send each others direct messages. It seems like Kbin/Mbin has no way of displaying those direct messages. Is that correct or is there a way to show direct messages?

I think that's cool. I have not discovered a limit to how large you can make the box.

Browsing by new was great in the early days of the first Kbin expansion, right after the reddit migration. I got to see all sorts of posts from interesting communities. Things you wouldn't normally see browsing under 'Hot'. Eventually, as thread numbers increase, I found myself using 'Hot' almost exclusively because it delivered good content. However, I did miss all the random stuff that would pop out in 'New'. If the lack of upvotes means 'Hot' is equal to 'New', I think that's kind of cool actually. Granted, it's cool because it's (hopefully) temporary.

It’s impossible to tell if there is an actual server upgrade, or they have just gone down, displaying the message from last time.

Now, you can't vote this thread up or down, and if you try to reply you'll get an error*, but like Morpheus said to the Ziononians "We are still here". I think that's pretty cool.

I'm slowly catching up with backlog tasks and cleaning up instances, but there's still quite a bit to do. Day by day, I'm managing to work longer hours, but I still need some time to ramp up the intensity of work. Just wanted to let you know that there might be brief downtimes in instance operation over the weekend. I aim to resume communication on Monday and write some code.

I'm feeling a bit better. Starting today, I'll be returning to work as much as possible. This week will likely be spent catching up on tasks, replying to emails, reading overdue comments, etc. I also need to work with Piotr on instance infrastructure. I'll be more actively handling spam as well, but it's clear that we need additional people for global instance moderation. I'll prioritize this. I'd like to delegate instance administration as much as possible and fully focus on code. In short, there's a lot of work ahead, but I aim to reach a point by the end of this month where I'm 100% focused on code development, and hopefully this time there won't be any unpleasant surprises. The past few months have been overwhelming with a series of unfortunate events ;-)

I appreciate that earnest made a post yesterday, or maybe it was the day before, saying that he is not dead and hasn't given up on kbin. It's not on this magazine, so I'm not sure where it was since this seems to be the most appropriate one, but in any case.

Reassuring us that things will improve at some point someday probably isn't enough, and I both moderate and donate to him every month, so I'm a pretty "serious" kbinner. I'm sure we've already lost many people who are less dedicated and just want something that works.

This site has been nearly unusable for days. There was the one day recently where it was entirely unusable. Everybody who uses this platform is an 'internet person". We need a platform which is (mostly) fully functional (mostly) every day.

Kbin needs to be fixed.

Ernest needs to give up on this being a one-man show and invite other moderators and contributors. Even I am looking at mbin because usability has just been so terrible that it's not worth the frustration and disappointment.

Edit: To make this thread even better, I got an error when I tried to post it. Twice.

I recently made a major update to my Improved Channel Select Menu userscript, which adds your subscribed magazines and liked collections to the channel select button in the header.

Here are the changes:

• The script now works with turbo mode!
• The menu now automatically refreshes when you subscribe or unsubscribe from a magazine. This can be changed in settings.
• An oversight was correct that caused the script to break on kbin.earth. Now, it should work there, and it now even applies there by default.

In addition to that, I also made a version for Mbin instances. So if you're on kbin.run, fedia.io, etc., you can use this if you prefer it over Mbin's native sub menu.

*Note: To get it to run on your Mbin instance, you'll probably need to add the following line of code in:
// @match *://instance.name/*
Add this where the other // @match lines are, and replace instance.name with the name of your instance.

I check in here quite often, but for now, I'm just focusing on clearing spam and keeping the instance alive. In January, I was working on the AP module, and there has been significant progress in the work, which hasn't been publicly published yet. Unfortunately, at the beginning of the year, I developed a skin condition that worsened from week to week, reaching a point where I couldn't even leave the house. In February, I spent my time visiting doctors and undergoing treatment with medications, which often had very unpleasant side effects. Therefore, I decided to hold off on any major updates to avoid causing even more chaos. Today, I've undergone one procedure, and I have another one scheduled for Thursday, which I hope will be the last.

Just because it's not visible that something is happening doesn't mean I haven't been doing anything during this time. In fact, two really significant things have been successful, which I've been working on for a long time and which I intended to announce soon once I recover.

This weekend, I also plan to work on infrastructure with Piotr, and from next week onwards, I intend to resume committing, provided my health allows it. I understand if you're exploring alternatives, but I hope I've exhausted my bad luck limit for this year, and the remaining time will be marked by gradual, steady progress, especially since new opportunities have emerged, about which I will hopefully write soon.

I don't mind waiting for things to be fixed what with life interfering with things, but I can't find any activity from Ernest lately. He hasn't been, like... hit by a bus or anything terrible like that, has he?
