I have an #Obsidian question. Can you change the default width of a note? I would like to change all my existing notes.

Hi Obsidian Community!

I link all notes to the daily notes of the day on which these notes were created (automatically via Templater). But I noticed that I can't see anything in my graph view. There are way too many connections and everything is centered around my daily notes.

How am I supposed to identify emergent structures in this mess?

Am I doing LATCH wrong?

Should I skip the linkage and leave it as a date key just without the brackets?

Or am I just misunderstanding how emergence works?

Looking forward to any ideas, thoughts, opinions and general input!

Hello Obsidian Community, I would like to hear your opinion on the following matter:

Background

In my daily notes I use a comment block after Yaml, in which I link to yesterday's, today's and tomorrow's daily notes. The daily note links to itself, because all my notes are linked to the daily note of the day on which they were created and it just stuck, when I edited my default template to create a daily note template.

Issue

Sometimes I create a daily note for a specific day a couple days later, and thus my memory is not as good as on the evening of the day in question.

Proposal

Now I figured that it might be sensible to record that information by linking daily notes not necessarily to themselves via the today key, but to the daily note of the day, when I actually did write down what happened on that day.

What is your opinion on that? Any real benefit here? Would that be worse? Do you have any other input?

Interested to hear your thoughts!

I have a strange issue with @[email protected]. When I pin a note #obsidian with hang. When I reopen it, loading workspace will hang. I have to delete workspace.json to get it to open again or resync my vault. Anyone have any ideas what is going on?

Good morning (excuse my English, it's not my first language), I am very disorganised and forgetful, I always live in a state of anxiety because if I don't make any reminders (for this I use 'saved message' onTelegram) I literally forget appointments, deadlines, so: I always live under persistent stress due to the strain of keeping a lot of things in mind. Of course I own a paper agenda, but I forget to use it. I'm looking for something that keeps in 'his mind' the things I should keep in mine, so that I can invest energy in other tasks. In essence, I feel completely unstructured.
Obsidian, inevitably, intrigued me: the idea of looking at one's brain from the outside is an enviable condition, rather than being inside the terrible tangled cage that is my brain.
I saw some tutorials, some of which are very long and some of which are super-fast. I began to think that it is not the tool, but the way one memorises and organises one's notes (in the broadest sense) that makes the difference. I'm afraid that if one has a lot of confusion in one's head, and is always working in a state of emergency, with the fear of having forgotten something, this is the real problem, and there is no Obsidian to help. How could Obsidian help me? And also: is there any video or document that teaches how to learn it properly?
Thank you very much for your advice.
p.s. Is there any possibility to sync Obsidian with laptop, mobile and tablet avoiding (for the moment, then if I start using it regularly, I'll happily subscribe) to pay the 8$ monthly fee, also avoiding using Gdrive or any other nosy tool that overbearingly imposes its policy on users?

@obsidianmd Will #Obsidian Publish ever be integrated into the Fediverse, do you think?

Improvements on tables, mainly to add new rows and columns:

Tables

  • New buttons to quickly add a new column or row.
  • Sorting table columns now ignores formatting characters.
  • There's now a smaller minimum width for table cells.

Kanban for @obsidianmd -- 😍😍😍!

I've wrestled for years re: handling "important but not urgent" to-do projects. Analog bujo collections are a chore to manage vs a tool. This plugin keeps it all sorted on one board + backlinks to any other related notes. 😄

I realize that the lines of text in a normal file have gaps between then, which almost instantly renders this impossible, but I’ll ask anyway. I’m looking for a way to get diagrams like ASCIIFlow in my notes. I’d even settle for a dedicated tab/filetype similar to canvas. My use case here is input with a stylus on a tablet and the original site struggles. Just doing weird things with highlighting random text, because the whole page is text. Canvas kind of does what I want, but there is a speed and elegance to ACSII flow, with the added ability to copy the result as text. I often use Obsidian to write documentation, and various system diagrams often come up. Being able to use characters rather than an image would be great.

In case the “” in the title aren’t clear, I cannot actually offer any financial compensation for this, should a plugin actually be made.

Obsidian 1.5 now had table editor (just saw this on Reddit, reposting, since kepano does not know about Lemmy...)

Hello! I'm looking for a plugin or something to turn this

into something similar to this:

(this app is quillpad, but other apps like samsung notes have this too) is this possible?

I'm in the process of changing my note taking from Standard Notes to Obsidian, and I am trying to figure out how I can sync notes between my laptop and Android device with the notes encrypted. I thought I had the solution by encrypting with Cryptomator and syncing the encrypted vault with Syncthing. But I realized that Cryptomator on Android does not work by mounting a new drive like it does on Linux, so Obisidian could not access the unencrypted files. So now I am not sure where to go from here.

My requirements:

  • Notes are synced both ways between laptop and phone
  • Notes are encrypted at rest
  • No usage of external cloud services

How do you go about syncing?

I have very little to complain about #Obsidian. It's a truly remarkable app!

One thing I wish it could do is to automatically rename links when their name is changed *outside of the app*. I realise this probably isn't possible, but it'd be nice if it was.

I use the auto link renamer plugin, and it works well, but sometimes I like to bulk rename files in the Finder, and this breaks all the links associated with them.

Unless there's a way to bulk rename files *inside* Obsidian?

I just want to report an issue I had and the solution. Obsidian was only telling me my username or password were wrong, but actually my office network's proxy was blocking the connection.

I excluded "*.obsidian.md" from my proxy settings and it works now.

I am using @obsidianmd local so no synchronization. But if I would decide to enable synchronization hosted by the wonderful people of #obsidianMD, the price is keeping me away. 8$ is not appropriate. Way to much.

I love Obsidian and the people behind, but not their pricing policy.

I recently started using Obsidian and have slowly been working it into my daily workflow.

One thing I’d like to be able to do is to use the iOS share sheet to send a URL to Obsidian with the ability to choose where it goes and make a note about it so I can keep track of bookmarks for various projects.

Is there any way to do this inside Obsidian or using iOS shortcuts with Obisdian?

Thanks!

Also posted to !pkms.

This is absolutely gorgeous. I take academic notes in Obsidian and am going to take several cues from this professor’s notes.

I may have also been trying to make a similar thing for math in general, including discrete mathematics. The professor’s turned out prettier than my own. Still going to make my own, taking/making the notes myself will reinforce these topics, but this is definitely a handy reference.

Wow, that's a game changer!

I am researching a few topics, like AI and work from home, and I am trying to figure out what system would be best. E.g., I may find some news articles, or journal papers, or reports, and so on, on a topic I am interested in. One option would be to create a note with the topic name, say "AI, and then just put the links into the note, maybe separating them with headers. Would it work or is there a better way? I was also thinking about a kanban board, but not sure if it is worth the trouble. Anyway, I would appreciate your tips!

Are there any #PlainText or #Markdown apps that can list the full names of files, on multiple lines, on a narrow screen? Landscape orientation helps, but it is not the solution I’m looking for.

#Obsidian Is the only one I’ve found so far that can do this.

All I want is to be able to browse the full text of long file names, in a list, in an app that doesn’t take 5 minutes to start up (I’m using iCloud for syncing Obsidian).

Anyone want to write me some #CSS to make the traditional writer's reminder of missing information, TK, show up prominently in #Obsidian wherever it occurs within a long text?

I'm thinking sans serif bold small caps, nicely letter spaced, maybe in light orange. Like Medium does it. Doesn't have to be offset to the side, just a nice visual blip to catch one's attention in the flow of the text.
