the maintainer is currently Ubuntu, but they stuck at version 5.2.1, which was released in Jan 2021. would Pop! compile a more updated version (say 5.3.1)?

zstd formated Kernel has conflicts with the 5.2.1, causing issues with libguestfs, but it's fixed upstream on 5.3.1+.

The title. My inability to actively keep my workspaces organized is driving me insane and I would love to just set it & forget it.

Any advice is appreciated!

Hi,

I just bought a brand new LG Gram. For the 2 minutes that I used Windows, the speakers worked fine. Since I installed pop OS the speakers don't work at all. I even tried reinstalling the whole entire OS and they still aren't working.

Thanks in advance!

Safe to take firmware? (poptalk.scrubbles.tech)
submitted 11 months ago by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

A few updates ago Pop started nagging me to accept firmware updates. My layman's reading of the release notes is that it's a Microsoft package that can block boot based on an ever-increasing number of packages they don't like.

Is it safe to take an update like this? Unlike a kernel change, I don't know how to recover if this goes wrong.

  • pipewire: Update to 0.3.82

virt-sparsify

libguestfs-test-tool

both yield similar error:

supermin: waiting another 1024000000 ns for root UUID to appear
This usually means your kernel doesn't support virtio, or supermin was unable
to load some kernel modules (see module loading messages above).
supermin: waiting another 2048000000 ns for root UUID to appear
supermin: waiting another 4096000000 ns for root UUID to appear

Is there any ways I can test running on a newer kernel?

One thing that's a little heart-breaking about Pop!_OS is that it seems like they don't give you clear directions on how to verify the integrity and authenticity of their ISO when you download it.

Consequently, I made some directions myself which I will share here. These are directions for the LTS Nvidia ISO, but they're easily adapted for other ISOs.

First, just browse to https://pop.system76.com, click DOWNLOAD, and copy the link for your preferred ISO (again, in this example we'll use the Nvidia one). Paste that link into a terminal:

https://iso.pop-os.org/22.04/amd64/nvidia/35/pop-os_22.04_amd64_nvidia_35.iso

From there, create/run the following commands:

wget https://iso.pop-os.org/22.04/amd64/nvidia/35/pop-os_22.04_amd64_nvidia_35.iso
wget https://iso.pop-os.org/22.04/amd64/nvidia/35/SHA256SUMS
wget https://iso.pop-os.org/22.04/amd64/nvidia/35/SHA256SUMS.gpg

You now should have downloaded three files, including the ISO. Next, import the signing key:

gpg --recv-keys 204DD8AEC33A7AFF

Finally, from within the same directory, run:

sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS
gpg --verify SHA256SUMS.gpg SHA256SUMS

Verify the output of the above commands, and you'll be ready to install Pop!_OS.

Hello everyone,

I've been on Pop_OS for a good week now and I'm liking it. First linux too. I have a series of small questions though and hopefully someone can enlighten me.

Question 1) I have a 3440x1440 screen. The resolution once booted is fine. During boot and up until the login screen, my monitor keeps displaying "HDMI 3440x1440" and flickers as if reset or switched port. I suspect it's because the screens before the login screen are not compatible with that resolution. I have no idea whether I'm supposed to see something or not until that point. Is there a way to "fix" it if there's even anything to fix?

Question 2) Also boot related. Booting anything else but Pop_OS is relatively quiet with the occasional Hard drive working noise. With Pop_OS, my hard drive makes almost uninterrupted sounds as if writing/reading from boot up until well over a minute after login. What is it? Timeshift already working? I'm slightly worried it's bringing extra wear and tear to my drives.

Question 3) Is there a way to display peripherals info? I'm thinking about my wireless mouse battery level. I'm going to dig that info specific for my mouse after work today, but I'm wondering if there's more of a "general blanket" solution to display very basic info from any connected device somewhere. I used to do stuff like that with Rainmeter on Windows.

Thanks!

Hi, there! Most people here probably use Pop!_OS so this isn’t required, but if you use System76 tools (like the scheduler and power daemons) on recent Gnome versions, then you may want to take a look at this fork.

I’ve made this because I use System76 tools with ArchLinux that has a newer Gnome version that isn’t supported by the stock Gnome extension. Maybe it’s useful to someone else.

Cheers

I can't find the shortcut to make the orange bar disappear. Workaround for me is to float and unfloat the window ( in tiling mode) mit Super+G. I know there is a shortcut for it, but I seem to not know the right word for that feature and the shortcut list by System67 and inside Pop!_OS don't mention them
