Rules

1. Professionalism

Tom holds a high standard for his content, and we should maintain that as his fans. There isn't a strict definition for this, but in general, just use common sense and be polite. Disagreements are fine, but be respectful and keep it strictly to the topic at hand -- no personal attacks, no "straw man"-ing or any other bad-faith agruing. Bigotry will be banned without hesitation.

2. Relevancy

This community is about all things Tom Scott. Of course, that's its name. But specifically, it's about Tom Scott the YouTube channel, and associates. That includes friends like the TechDif crew. Outside content featuring or about Tom is also welcome.

What is out of scope is Tom Scott the person. Anything digging into his personal life or history is strictly prohibited. That's a big part of why he wanted the subreddit taken down, so let's show that we can be better than that.

3. Moderator discretion

Without trying to list out every bad thing you can do, again, just use common sense and ask yourself if Tom would approve. If Tom isn't likely to approve, neither are the mods, even if the rules don't explicitly prohibit it. Even if nothing is going wrong yet, we may also preemptively stop conversations that look like they're going to a bad place. I'm not trying to micromanage y'all, I just want to keep every nice and tidy so Tom doesn't get upset with us.

I don't know how I didn't notice it when I was filling out the sidebar (the account was made 2022), but you can follow Everybody's Favourite Matt Gray™ from any fediverse platform that let's you follow users (so not Lemmy) at @[email protected]. He also has a few others, you can see them all at https://mattg.co.uk/

As for the others, Tom's Masto is still parked (but the pfp was updated to his new branding). Gary Brennan also has a parked Mastodon account and I can't find anything for Chris Joel

Lateral Book

A new Lateral game book is now available for pre-order, slated for release on November 14th!

We are delighted to announce that the new Lateral game book is now available for pre-order!

100 questions, most of which are brand new, exclusive to the book, and will never appear on the show. Plus there's the best of the questions from the show itself, to play by yourself or with a group. It's great for meet-ups with friends, game nights, road trips and family gatherings.

Each question has all the official clues and background notes — all the stuff that‘s on the question cards but doesn‘t always make it into the show. Plus, there are warm-up questions and bonus articles.

Also, Tom‘s played all the new questions himself, so you can see if you can beat him.

Pre-orders count towards our first week sales which are super important in the publishing trade.

As of writing this post, pre-orders are only available for the UK edition, but editions for the US and rest of the world are also in the works ("coming soon"). Check the website for all the links and latest info

It’s the latest lateral thinking cap that might or might not be imaginary!

Got inspired by the intro of the latest episode of @lateralcast and now I want a non-imaginary one…

Those who've been keeping with the Newsletter might remember him then-recently finishing recording the next block of Lateral and not wearing a red t-shirt anymore.

Well, apparently Lateral 91 was the first in that block, because here it is: Tom's first time in front of a camera in 6 months!
