This post is specifically about the many posts on here about Lily Orchard, but the sentiment applies to other YouTubers accused of serious crimes.
It makes me uncomfortable seeing people make posts where they say something like “Lily ‘Sister Rapist’ Orchard” in the title as a victim of CSA myself. To me it just feels disrespectful to her victim. I’m obviously not her sister and can’t speak for her, but if I saw people talking about my rapist and repeatedly invoking my abuse for a punchy post title, it would genuinely be triggering, especially considering this is a drama subreddit.
In a lot of cases I think sex crimes are treated…blasé isn’t quite the right word, but not with much care, in this subreddit. People put incredibly specific triggering information in titles rather than using a title that gets the point across and then putting that info in the post, so people like me who like to scroll for the non-criminal drama are confronted with these topics. And people post and post and post about these YouTubers, repeating sexual abuse claims as nauseam. Now this isn’t me saying people should ignore these claims, or that anyone trying to talk about them is trying to be exploitative, but at a certain point obsessing over and constantly sharing the platforms of a sexual abuser and flippantly chatting about their terrible crimes over and over is in itself an odd sort of voyeurism.
Again, I’m not saying that if you engage with these posts that you’re like those abusers or like them or anything. Just be mindful of how you’re speaking about victims and who might be seeing the way you do it.
