Does your phone have to be unlocked to show your ID? If do, then you’re basically handing a completely unprotected trove of personal information to someone who probably has no qualms about siphoning out every byte of data as quickly as possible.

Seems like sticking to a little plastic card is a much safer bet.

They have a pilot program with the CA DMV app. I added it months ago but haven't used it because nobody knows how to use it. They just ask for the original ID.

That doesn’t really answer my question. If the device needs to be unlocked then the TSA or any other alleged law enforcement agency can and will just copy your entire phone, simply because they can. I believe the correct response here is “hell no.”
