i read this site all the time and i am dying to know the answer to this:

is it pronounced "aye arr ess" or "arrrrs"?

It's arrrrs, comes from a Latin word

I know how to pronounce it and I still say arse. PNAS is also quite the mouthful. Still easier than spelling out the full name.
