I can understand why with books randomly disappearing in the cloud vs always keeping them irl

Yep, when you buy a book at a bookstore, you actually own it and it can't be easily taken from you.

It mentions crypto is in decline as a contrast to B&N. Bitcoin is at an all time high last time I checked.

While Bitcoin is extremely volatile, it brings into question the relevance of everything else in the article.
