Homelessness is the primary driver of the mental health / substance crisis especially, but yeah, overall as well. People really think a system that withholds insulin, then pays for emergency gangrene amputations, then pays out increasing disability for years as more amputations (and other problems) happen, is more efficient somehow. And that's just ONE example of how proper regular care saves a looot of resources in the long run using just one disease process. There's millions of examples across everything from colorectal cancers to congestive heart failure
