News and Discussions about Reddit

Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

:::spoiler Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

This is only the beginning of Lemmy and it already has everything I got from Reddit.

We gave the admins and spez a chance to go back on the API changes with the protest but they arrogantly ignored the users views.

The only thing that will get CEOs like this to listen to their user base is a mass exodus. If several million people closed their account they would actually listen in the first place.

Power to the people.

I’m a bit late to the party but I didn’t delete my account. I edited everything with a message like « deleted because of Reddit API policy, see you on the fediverse »

I think I will leave it like that because that way when a Google search or anything point to one of my post/comment, peoples will see the message instead of just « deleted ».

It’s about the message :)

Same here. Ran a script to edit all my comments explaining why they're edited and that I refuse to let reddit benefit from my input anymore.

I'm considering it myself. Haven't done it yet, but haven't browsed reddit today either.

Don't let them use your own data to train ad algos

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

i have already deleted everything, they can restore it?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

IIRC they can restore deletions easily but not edits, if you edited the comments and then deleted reddit will only, AFAIK, restore the comments to the edited version, however you can request the right to be forgotten if GDPR applies to you.

i have deleted all my posts / comments, they can restore it if the situation is desperate?

If you are a citizen of an EU country you can request your data to be deleted under the right to be forgotten act.

https://gdpr.eu/right-to-be-forgotten

This site explains it well and gives an pdf template. Consider doing this instead of deleting your account.

Edit: If reddit does not comply they might get into trouble. EU doesnt fuck around.

What if I’m a dual US-EU citizen living in the US. Would this law still apply to me?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If you are a citizen of an eu country yes citizenship isn't solely based upon residence

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Fantastic! This is really good to know, thank you!

I’m thinking of like spamming spez directly or posting ona bunch of subs that he is an asshole or something idk haven’t totally thought it out but: start fucking around a looooot, what’s the worst they can do? Permaban me from all of Reddit?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

If you care about overwriting/deleting your posts I would hold off on deleting the account. Because if some get restored, once you cancel the account you can’t go back and remove them again.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Before you do, if you made any useful posts be sure to copy and paste them onto lemmy so they will not get deleted from the internet.

The only thing keeping me from deleting it is how much I rely on the CPTSD subreddit. It’s a big part of my livelihood. Otherwise I’d have deleted every trace.

If you're so compelled to, but do consider any helpful posts your account might have.

Reddit might be a sinking ship, but in this age of the Internet it still one of the most reliable ways to Google a solution to your problems.

It depends on what you want to do with Reddit in the future.

I'm still going to go to Reddit, but only on old.reddit from my computer.

If you don't want to go back, then I can see deleting your account.
