What could be a viable alternative for medical applications? Plastics have improved the sterility of medical environments immensely. Sure, we don't need plastic pop bottles or shopping bags, but how do we phase out plastic in the medical field without reducing sterility?

There are basically two problems:

  • the use of fossil fuel
  • plastic being none degradeable

For a lot of packaging treated paper is a really good alternative. It is biodegradable and sterile packages expire anyway.

For al lot of the rest recycled plastic or bio plastic are options. We have plant oil and if we have to we can produce plastic with that. It is just organic chemistry after all.
