Jerboa is a native-android client for Lemmy, built using the native android framework, Jetpack Compose.

Warning: You can submit issues, but between Lemmy and lemmy-ui, I probably won't have too much time to work on them. Learn jetpack compose like I did if you want to help make this app better.

I have been enjoying this app and it's great to see even more improvements

I think it looks pretty nice, I think adding the ability to jump to the context of a reply to a comment would be pretty cool as well.

Like seeing the little notification for it in your messages and being able to tap on it to bring you to the context would be nice. I got pretty used to it in BaconReader.

Edit: I also think making federated (I think that's the term) links work when tapped in comments would be cool as well.

Like tapping a /c/[email protected] link would just jump over instead of opening a browser window would be cool.

Yes! Sometimes I need to know the context of the thread or the post

Will you make a PR? I see all this concepts here, but imaging something is not as easy as actually implementing it. Hope, Jerboa's dev team will grow with current reddit user influx.

I feel stupid. I can't for the life of me figue out how to reply to replies. (Edit: reply to replies in the inbox, it's not changed in the wild)

Other than that, everything looks good 👍

Edit²: Here is my bug report for the missing inbox interactions, if you are having this issue bump this report instead of opening a new one.

Edit³: issue closed, I would ask for more clear indication of the feature than (i think this is it) "comment action bar interaction improvements". I know the changelog needs to be succinct and must avoid excessive verbosity, but it took a while to figure out that long pressing in the username/vote counter bar reveals the interactions. Also an option to have them revealed at all times would be appreciated.

Yes, please! This looks amazing!

wow! that looks really nice! thanks

Great work! One suggestion: I think the bookmark icon on Jerboa should probably be changed to match the star icon on the lemmy instance website.

Preferably I would like the opposite (the star to change to a bookmark), but either way I think it should probably match.

Any news on when this might be rolled out?

Looks good!

One suggestion:

Can you make an option to hide the controls for comments (up/downvote, permalink and so on...) and make them only pop up when I press on the comment?

When reading the comments of a post, the controls take away a lot of screen space. I don't want to interact with very comment, so hiding the controls would declutter the comment section imho

Example of what I mean in Sync for reddit:

Controls Hidden

Controls shown

If you long tap the comment, it hides the buttons.

But I agree that it should be hidden by default. And swap the long tap and short tap behavior.

Thanks! What version are you using? I'm on 0.0.32 and long tapping (or short tapping for that matter) just hides the whole comment

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm on 0.0.33 and long tapping works

Interesting! I'm using the f-droid version which only has 32 right now. Does play store have 33?

[Edit] ok nevermind, had to refresh the package sources on f droid and got .33

I get the same long press behaviour as you guys now. Wish it would affect the whole thread at least and not just a single comment. Kinda useless right now I feel

I think it looks great. Can't wait to see it evolve.

One issue I'm having is images in comments aren't showing up.

I like it! Looks like a huge improvement. Are there any plans for a compact mode?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What do you mean by compact mode? You can change the post layout in the settings, if that's what you mean.
