https://hoopswire.com/celtics-intend-to-sign-jaylen-brown-to-extension-not-pursuing-bradley-beal/

The Celtics seem to believe they have their man in guard/forward Jaylen Brown. Or at least one of their two main men, along with fellow wing Jayson Tatum.Jaylen Brown tries to drive by Bradley Beal

As we relayed here, the Celtics are aiming to sign Brown to a supermax contract extension, and continue to build around Brown and Tatum.

And despite some chatter about Wizards guard Bradley Beal, who supposedly is available, the Celtics don’t seem to be interested, per Brian Windhorst of ESPN. This despite Beal’s close relationship with Tatum.

“My feel from talking to sources is that the Celtics are not necessarily in on this one,” Windhorst said on ESPN. “Their intention is to get Jaylen Brown on a contract extension this year. Even if they got Jaylen Brown done, the idea of bringing in Bradley Beal would be extraordinarily difficult because of the three contracts together.

“I don’t think any conversation that involves trading Jaylen Brown is something the Celtics are super interested in right now.”

Windhorst went on to say that a Beal trade will be difficult, given that he has a no-trade clause in his contract — and therefore could keep the Wizards from getting back “the haul” they likely would be seeking in return.

We're never getting out of this deal, are we?

Oof, Wizards fan? My condolences...

someone will take beal. it's just a matter of what value, if any, the wiz can get in return.

I've been thinking a Beal to Philly trade could happen, centered around Tobias Harris.

I've heard the opposite recently, like if harden leaves they want to roll with Maxey. So far Miami looks like the most likely destination in terms of prior interest and available salary matching pieces.

Miami will probably try to take Beal. But that max contract plus the trade kicker plus the no trade clause is pretty huge. It'll be hard for teams to work around that.

I think they should run it back. They are one of the best teams in the league and reach the ECF consistently. I don't see that they become better by trading Brown

Eh. Celtics need to do something to hit that next level. I thought they’d trade away Brown.

I agree, they definitely need to move Brown. I wonder if they're extending him and moving him later.

We were in the Finals last year, ECF this year, I don't see us making any meaningful change. It's now a game of tweaks - better coaching staff (done!), more reliable shooting, and a bit of injury luck.

Basically we go as far as Tatum & Brown take us

That's fair - it's also hard to find a huge change without giving up valuable guys. Brown's ball handling has just been a headache to watch, and this is coming from a guy who follows the Celtics pretty closely

You and every Celtics fan out there 🙂

And I'll just leave this here https://twitter.com/gabe_blessed/status/1669038154072858624?s=20

Ultimately it's the right move. Replacing Jaylen would be extremely difficult, even in a trade. Unless something in the market changes, it's not worth trading for the sake of trading. He's still a star player who is only 26.
