I grew up with "going to Mars" as a genuine hope. But in the I terveneing decades, it's become clear that doing lots more robotically/remotely is a far better choice for the near term.
We have the ability/tech to pre-build a human habitat, and fully test it, before humans even go.
Let's hope terraforming Mars is an actual possibility in the near-ish future, because it sure looks like we might need a backup planet.
If we had the tech to terraform Mars then we could just fix Earth first right?
