Those ugly bastards got milked so that we could live. They really did help save our ass during the pandemic

Looks yummy what are they drinking?

[–] [email protected] 24 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

Some kind of blueberry drink, looks like. Through their backs.

At least the nautilus listened

He didn't. All but one of his diverse descendants were wiped out along with the dinosaurs, relatively "recently".

I mean if you want to suck the fun out of it only 4/22 of horseshoe crab species survived.

Saying any species not evolving for millions of years is a misnomer anyway. A living fossil only superficially resemble ancient species. Since both nautilus and horseshoe crabs are considered living fossils I thought it's a fair comparison.

But this is a silly little comic ultimately about the existential dread of modern human life so this level of pedantry isn't needed.

What’s the guy on the computer supposed to be about?

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 month ago

Something about the drudgery of modern existence, I suspect.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 month ago

That's what they evolved into. Crab is happy staying a crab

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

The implication is that the crab is content with it's life but the spawn of some of those seeking a better life through evolution ended up miserable, toiling away oppressed by their own kind. A fate no one at the time could have imagined. We are these spawns.

Crocodile, shark, pill bug... They're all creatures that are now famed as "living fossils". Even looks like a coeleocanth fin in one of the panels.

I like triops.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I'm not sure I understand. There's a nautilus, croc, shark, trilobite - so is the point that non of them really evolved? I feel dumb today.
