Right now, I’m playing the early access version of Baldurs Gate 3. I’m getting ready to put it down (frustrated: BG3 has the potential to be good, but without controller support, I’m getting really frustrated with the UI. ) and switch to Yakuza Like a Dragon.

What are you playing now and what are you looking forward to playing next?

Recently set up EmuDeck, so the real question is what am I not playing? Jokes aside, currently taking a break from the Deck for D4 (wanted better graphics and smoother framerate so I went with PS5). Will probably grab it on PC when there's a sale just to be able to play it on the go... well, wherever wifi is available.

Other than that it's been mostly "Fuck Around With Tweaking the OS and Settings to Get Games Just Right and Then Never Actually Play Them" Simulator. Windows 11 runs surprisingly smooth off of just a MicroSD card.

Darkest Dungeon 2, TOTK, Everspace 2. Some Time Wasters and Dofromatik when I need something mindless.

Recently grabbed D4, it’s running great atm (60fps).

If Bungie ever supports Destiny running on Deck I’m probably grabbing one. I know there’s ways, but I just don’t have the time for fiddling with stuff like I used to. Ally is interesting, but battery life and price is a bit of a trade off.

Playing the game I'm developing

Hey had some trouble replying, it is a space RPG

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Mostly point and click adventures. Harvey's New Eyes is my favorite among those I've finished for now

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I'm using it almost exclusively during commuting between my hometown and my girlfriend's current city (nearly 4h) for which the deck is an absolute godsent

Played through the Sherlock Holmes games and now am playing the Ace Attorney games (for which the Deck is probably a bit overpowered but so what).

Not a huge fan of fast-paced games on the deck since I have a pretty good PC at home with a 144hz 1440p monitor which I really miss with games like Else Ring or (especially) Rocket League

SteamDeck is GREAT for light roguelikes. They are often designed with controller in mind and are light on the battery.

I've been playing

  • Dead Cells
  • Hades
  • Slay the Spire
  • Skul
  • Undermine
  • Vampire Survivors

All great on Deck

Spiderman Remastered and Cyberpunk 2077

Been mostly playing ToTK on switch like some here, though I think I'll have to give a few more attempts at P ranking some bosses in Pizza Tower soon, or perhaps try to 100% Hifi Rush

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Would you say Hifi rush is worth the price in amount of content terms? I've been switherong on it for a while.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Sorry for the late reply! It’s really a question of how you approach postgame content. It’s a fairly short “linear campaign” with hidden challenges for level replays. For me the story was fun and the mechanics engaging enough to enjoy beyond the short playtime.

I still enjoy turning it on to do a few fights and enjoy the rhythm mechanics, might do a new play through.

Vampire Survivors for a while. Lately I just finished up a run through of Pokemon Red and just got started on a run of Pokemon Silver.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Over the year I've finished Outer Wilds, Hades, PikuNiku, the second Ori game, and have been slowly getting through Elden Ring. Next is probably Tunic, but idk if it's worth my time after playing through the first 2 hours.

Nowadays I can't use any other controller than the deck, so I sometimes link it with the pc just for that - I just can't live without the gyro and the back buttons

Not a steamdeck user but a linux pc gamer so solidarity. Currently playing RE2 and Like a dragon Ishin.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Currently playing through Ori and the Blind Forest on my Deck. It's like it was made for that form factor.

Now, I am playing a lot of Noita (but I feel the controls are getting in the way, especially on lower levels...) and Transport Fever 2 (I do love me some Transport Tycoon nostalgia :P ).

I have played a lot of Civ6 which plays surprisingly well on Steam Deck.

Tons of great games on Steam Deck!

  • Hollow Knight
  • Noita
  • Civilization VI
  • Transport Fever 2
  • Phoenix Point
  • Subnautica
  • Talos Principle
  • Disco Elysium ...

Currently playing BOTW, Stardew Valley, Cassette Beasts, and Shadow Tactics Blade of the Shogun (I have trouble focusing on one game at once.)

Super excited for BG3 too, although I'm waiting for controller support with the full release first.

After religiously following the order number tracking efforts on the Steam Deck subreddit (finally got mine May '22) it's been my 'clearing the backlog whilst sitting with the significant other' device...heavily punctuated with Vampire Survivors and, lately, Diablo 4. It's a great little roguelike device -- stuff like Cult of the Lamb, Spelunky 2, and Rogue Legacy 2 -- that I can just play for a few minutes wherever the Heck I'd like.

I still find it like holding black magic. I'm a software engineer, and I understand how it works, but playing a Windows port of a PS4 game (like Horizon) in Linux in my hands is something I don't think I'll ever not be impressed by!

I got to ask: what's your secret on still clearing the backlog since that time? I've gotten mine since June '22 if I remember correctly, and my backlog-beating definitely got reduced.

+rep for Spelunky and Rogue Legacy 2! Really loved my short play session with RL2 when trying several games out for my backlog list, but haven't gotten back to it. Spelunky I adore, but I can't deny it's frustrating to get through it despite actually making progress after a while.

Big respect to Valve and CrossOver for turning Wine into something more usable for handheld devices running Linux (and now even macOS is profiting from it with their Game Porting Kit). There are still caveats, but it's definitely good enough for me. Software engineers like us can easily tweak with settings or improve compatibility with quick tricks compared to a regular Joe, but it's still impressive. I've always wanted to build a tiny Raspberry Pi handheld just for coding, but this is way better.

Honestly my backlog has still somewhat grown at a steady pace, but I've kept my Steam Deck mostly roguelikes for killing time and one or two 'main' games which helps keep focus. The steady stream of disappointing 2023 releases has certainly helped too...! It'll be interesting to see stats if Valve do another Steam Replay; 2022 on Deck for me was Vampire Survivors, Rogue Legacy 2, Horizon, Hitman 3, and Elden Ring.

I also still alternate between the Deck and my main machine, playing more controller-focused stuff on Deck. My main machine is more FPS and driving-sim focused -- although it would be amusing to play a sim on Deck hooked up to my racing rig...!

There's a bunch of us at [email protected]

But I'm currently playing Crash Bandicoot 4 on deck since it finally came out on Steam. It's my game to take a a break from playing ToTK on my PC
