Could've just linked to GOG instead of this random website with their affiliate links.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I get what you mean, but honestly I'd click through their affiliate links on purpose anyway. No ads, no invasive trackers, just Linux news and discussion.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 year ago

My adblock begs to differ.

I love GOG! They're giving away a free game and a free Cyberpunk digital goods pack currently for anyone curious!

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago

Before anyone gets too excited, I just wanna point out that the Cyberpunk goodies are just wallpapers and concept art.

Don't forget to unsubscribe from their mailing list after claiming giveaways: https://www.gog.com/en/account/settings/subscriptions

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No kidding with this one; I got constant spam from them after the last one and was very confused.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

"Constant" "Spam" at most I got an email twice a week.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

I got daily emails with FOMO titles about special one time only redemption codes. Occasionally multiple times a day :-/

This link doesn't work. Any chance you can link another?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

It works for me. You have to be logged in on gog. The link opens blank page with {} when clicked and claims the game - you should get the email confirmation. Second click on the link should say *already claimed *

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

If you're already logged in to GOG that link claims the giveaway directly but doesn't show anything. If you visit it again it will say Already claimed.

And if you're not logged in it will say Unauthorized.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Just go to the main page and scroll down a bit. The giveaway's there.

XCOM 2 for $2.99 is a great deal.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I swiped Siedler II for that price :)

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Dann you triggered some nostalgia for me! Did you get the Gold Edition or Anniversary remake?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Gold is on sale for $2.49 :) I can basically hear the music, even if I haven't even installed it yet!

Love GOG, definitely the best storefront for PC games by far due to their principles. They're not perfect, but I personally don't buy if it's not on GOG.

Looks like I can pick up Cold Steel 3/4 and Ys 8/9 for good prices this sale, so I know what I'm getting come pay day.

Would love to use it more, but no Linux support. I've tried using it through Lutris, but installing updates is more annoying than it needs to be.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Same. Minigalaxy bridges the gap a little, but it's missing critical features that only GOG could implement. GOG have had Linux gamers pestering them for Galaxy on Linux forever. Seems like a natural fit, but they've ignored it, teased that it's happening, ignored it again... I eventually gave up and went all-in on Steam. Valve have done everything they can to make Linux a class-A member of their ecosystem, so that's where my business goes.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Yep, I'd be glad to see valve have some competition on Linux, but in the meantime I've been greatly appreciating their contributions.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I only game on Linux and I haven't really had any major issues. I use Lutris as well, but I'm also not really playing any games which get updates either.

While I'd love something like a Steam client for GOG, I doubt it's ever going to happen, and personally I don't really like Valve/Steam either so I just don't use Steam.

Disco Elysium for only 10€ is a absolute steal. One of the best RPG's I ever played.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The money doesn't go to the creators anymore though :(

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

I haven't had time to watch it but this guy did a video on this where he digs into it.

If you’re interested in 4X games at all Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri is only $1.49. It absolutely holds up and to this day probably still has the best story of any 4X game.

It also works great on Steamdeck with a couple of easy tweaks. Unfortunately the instructions for those tweaks are currently in Reddit blackout shutdown limbo so I can’t copy them here, but when the blackout ends you can Find The Instructions Here.

What do you guys think of buying Cyberpunk 2077? I've been waiting for it to improve before buying, and with the dlc around the corner, and generally good opinions it seems like a great time to buy.

Edit: Just bought it together with the DLC, thanks for the recommendations!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Great time to buy. Probably won't be cheaper between now and DLC launch. There's already been tons of changes to balance and the class system, performance has significantly improved. It's honestly just a really wonderful world and role playing experience. I also highly recommend the short anime if that's your sort of thing.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Half-priced it's a good deal imho. The world is nice if you enjoy the cyberpunk aesthetics and feel it portrays. I usually don't like open world games, and Cyberpunk didn't actively repulse me, but I haven't finished the game either.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

The voice actor of a character in the DLC got to play the new version and she wrote down some of the bigger changes in a thread on twitter. Some of the changes address common complaints like stats being tied to clothing and the police being rather boring. Just as some additional information.

I paid £20 for it and I think it's worth it for that price. But not at the £50 it first sold at. It's not about the bugs or glitches - it's just a sort of middle of the road game in terms of gameplay and immersion. If you don't expect too much you will have a lot of fun.

Any recommendations for the steam deck?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I’ve played the GOG version of Witcher 3, Alpha Centauri, and Wasteland 2 on my Steamdeck. All worked great, though Alpha Centauri needs some easy tweaks you can find here when the Reddit blackout is over.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

The trackpad mouse emulation just makes almost anything viable. I played a good 100h of Rimworld until I got too annoyed with the game itself.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

So many good games for low price, I do really love GOG. Thank for the share OP
