And how many of those accounts are for NSFW content?

For the sake of anonymity, people without separate accounts can pretend to be sock-puppets of those answering.

1 main and 1 nsfw just like I did on reddit

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This is the way.

Though, my Lemmy illiteracy has lead me to make an account per instance. So I have one here, .world and nsfw. Is it possible to go on different instances with the same account?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Yes. You can use the search function for that, just search for "community@instance", so for example "[email protected]".

Linking to communities from other instances works similarly, using a "!": [email protected]

You can also append this type of address to your instance url like so:

https://lemmy.ml/c/[email protected]

As long as another instance is not explicitly defederated (blocked) from yours, you can visit any community from any instance this way.

I have 3 on different instances with all the same subscriptions in case one goes down.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I should have done this. vlemmy.net died and I lost all my subscriptions :(

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Same, literally just finished subscribing to 50+ communities the day before it went down :'(

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah, I've got a similar deal going on with mine

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

One on lemmy.world (June 15th), this account I've made on lemmy.fmhy.ml (July 3rd), and one on lemmynsfw (also July 3rd). My lemmy.fmhy.ml account is my main now, I only login on lemmy.world if I want a more up-to-date feed and content, though the lemmyverse has already gotten bigger and has more content nowadays so that's no longer necessary.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You can follow any lemmy from any lemmy as long as they're federated FYI

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I know, but iirc it takes time for posts to be shared across instances?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah, I think you're right.

You mean Fediverse accounts? I have one for Lemmy and one for Mastodon. Boring? Yeah, I know.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

One on lemmy.world and one on kbin.social, because I wanted to try out both. I only use Lemmy, but I'll keep kbin as a backup in case there's any shenanigans with Lemmy in the future. And I still have my old Reddit account cause I can't bring myself to delete it, but that profile just points people to my Lemmy account.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I have one Lemmy and one kbin as well. Seeing what develops.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I have a handful of redundant accounts because instances keep fucking up or disappearing completely.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Out of curiosity - hoe many have you run into that had disappeared?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

R.I.P. Vlemmy. Now I have another Lemmy account.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Huh. Wouldn't have bet on vlemmy to be the one to just evaporate.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

One that disappeared (vlemmy, which seems to have lost its DNS registration).

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ummm, I'm not sure?

Back on reddit, I had two main, my author account, and a novelty account. Wanted to keep things simple. One main for browsing, another for moderation. The author account for self promotion and such. The novelty account was for the joy of entering a simple little phrase whenever discworld would come up.

Sadly, for some reason, my textpand doesn't work in lemmy apps, and I haven't typed out the formatting for it in ages. But it was a version of foul old ron and used one of his gibberish phrases along with the clacks overhead the sir Pterry

But, I had tried lemmy out a bit last year or the year before, and had deleted those accounts. I have the two user names I used most on reddit registered at a couple pf instances, plus a handful of others for redundancy, my author account, and three accounts that are actually my cousin's, but he isn't using regularly that I'm subscribing to things I know he likes.

I've kinda lost track tbh. I have them all in my bitwarden though, but I only keep one or two logged into any given app, so I don't have them all in one place without messing with BW

But at least a dozen.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I love Discworld!

By which I mean, what was the phrase?

I have four due to instance shopping, but there's only one I use all the time and one I use as an alternate. Would be nice to be able to synchronize them.

NSFW I don't care about, it's enabled. I only browse stuff by subscription where that stuff rarely comes up. Can't imagine the garbage I'd have to sift through setting my front page to "All".

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

You could create a linktree with the list of servers you're on

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

1 main account, 1 alt account. This is a use case where I fully appreciate the separation caused by federation; my alt account is on a separate instance and therefore is completely, wholly separate from my main.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Just this one, I don't see a need to have any alts right now. I might later on for NSFW if I want to subscribe and vote, but there's basically no NSFW lemmys worth using yet so...

I have 3.

First was Lemmy.World, because RIF suggested it with its final update message.

Second was Yiffit because I need my furry femboy stuff and didn't find it on Lemmy.World and didn't know I could use the same account for it yet.

3rd was sh.itjust.works as a backup for when the other 2 are down/slow.

On Reddit I just had 2. My main one, and the one I used to get around a really stupid and hypocritical ban on /r/gaming. Perma banned for mentioning what PS .bin file version was needed for NA games on an emulator; not linked, didn't even tell them where to get it, just gave them a version number. In a thread about how to get PCSX to work. πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Just 2 here but thinking of spinning up a personal instance shortly

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Three, browser

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

3 - this one is my main one, then one on kbin.social and one on lemmy.world. When I created the other 2 I basically couldn't log in to them because the servers were too overloaded, but this one let me straight in so this is my main one now.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Coincidentally, I just now opened a second account after opening the first a week ago. I decided I wanted a different @username. I don’t know why I used my Reddit username the first time. I’ll delete that one soon β€” I only made two post comments with it.

I do have a Mastodon, too.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Currently three, non used for porn just different instances.

Testing out various apps on iOS.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

On Reddit I had my regular one and an alt for commenting things that I wouldn't want tied back to me IRL. So far here is just this one. If I ever post much more identifying info on this one, I might make an alt.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Just the one. I'd just constantly forget to switch if I had more than one, not worth the hassle.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Just two, one I first signed up with and decided was a mistake, and then the one I currently use. I'll probably make a third for nsfw eventually but that's low on the list while I'm still settling in

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago
  1. 1 for normal stuff, and 1 for NSFW.
[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I've got 2, largely out of curiosity for what defederation meant as far as user perspective.

When exporting comes online I'll likely make an effort to spin up an instance if it's still feasible... So there will be a 3rd cake?On the positive side I don't think you're going to find many people wanting to sock puppet mild takes and noise rock.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

At the moment, I have... seven, I think. I mostly use two - one at kbin and one at lemmy.ninja. I have one at lemmy.world that I check in on occasionally, but there's generally too much junk to wade through there. And I have one at lemmy.nsfw for... you know... stuff. The rest are languishing.

I just open them through my browser. I have a tentative plan to switch to an app, but I'm waiting for them to get a bit more settled first, and really the browser works fine.

I find each instance to be a different experience, so I just switch between them as I see fit. And I'm still looking for at least one more - something deliberately scholarly and sedate.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

mander.xyz might be up your street

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I have 4, one in kbin, one in world, one in shit, and this one... :D

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I made 4 or 5 accounts on different instances. I settled on programming.dev, and only use this account.

Might be interesting to create an NSFW account too.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

2, this one and my obligatory one over at sdf.org cuz I am over there doing stuff all the time. I had two alts over in Reddit for specific topics but currently I don't see those topics over here so no alts currently.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I have kbin too, since I found sync issues with kbin where posts wouldn't show up even days later.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I have 2 of the same account on a couple different instances in case one crashes. I pretty much just use this one though, lemmy.world seems relatively stable.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Signed into jerboa with lemmy.ml and liftoff with lemmy.ca for when lemmy.ml suddenly stops loading (hopefully less of an issue as time goes on)

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I see no need for extra accounts :)

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

3 but one is abandoned.

I got a Kbin account but there were a few too many bugs. So I found a Lemmy instance I quite liked and and left the Kbin account to rot. I also have a mastodon account because sometimes I like to have the scroll.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Two. I originally signed up on Beehaw, but I decided to switch after the defederation. Most of the communities I was subscribed to at the time were on World, and I hated losing access to them. Saw my current instance advertised on Mastodon and made the switch. My Beehaw account is still active, but I don’t check it very often since I can still interact with those communities through this account.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

One. Signed up on lemmy.ca and don't see any reason to make another.
