Hey so i know this is a weird question but.. does anyone has the same issue of "vanishing comments"? every few times i write a comment, it sends the comment.. and boom its gone like it never existed. it doesn't gives me any error message, its just gone forever.

its really frustrating if you write a long reply to someone as an example and suddenly its gone.. destroys the whole Fediverse atmosphere for me a lot. if i have to copypaste each time comments before sending to make sure they don't vanish forever & i can send them again.. it sucks a bit.

anyone experiencing the same?

It could be the app that you are using, that Lemmy is still going through growing pains with the new flood of traffic or your phone/PC just hates you.

You are probably going to have to track down the debug logs on whatever device and app you are using to see if there are any post errors.

Oh. Never trust any web forms on any site, especially if you are typing a big message. I know it's a pain, but selecting and copying your words is good insurance for long posts.

it's not an app i using, i just did send a few minutes ago with firefox a longer comment and boom, gone.

webconsole shows nothing like errors or similiar that would hint at something going wrong. thats the weird part about this.

It's possible that the console is clearing the visible logs when the page gets refreshed after you hit submit. If that is not the case, see if you can trap the HTTP response code after your browser sends the POST. There are a million and one ways this issue could be happening.

If it gets really bad, use a HTTP(s) man in the middle tool like Fiddler or even OWASP Zap to capture the full exchange. That may give you some more hints.

well, what makes it hard to debug this is that it only happens from time to time random. most of the time it works. so to debug it i would have to each time check the debug console before sending a comment to catch it maybe sometime.

i didn't really wanted to start with MITM's just to debug this lol. hoped that other users maybe have the same issues and its maybe a current bug or glitch on lemmy.

but hey, thanks for the help anyway! :)

I noticed posting from lemmy.world is really buggy. I started composing in another app as a failsafe. Kbin doesn’t seem to have this issue, and maybe other Lemmy instances don’t either.

Are they comments on particular instances? I think with federation you can see more than you can interact with sometimes. It's a bit frustrating.

i'm 95% only using this instance here (lemmy.world), so i would say its mainly the lemmy.world instance. i only have 2 other accounts on lemmy.ml and lemmynsfw, but i don't really use them to comment or post much.

I think he meant the instance location of the communities / magazines you were posting in, not where your account is registered.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

would be still lemmy.world since I don't really post in communitys outside lemmy.world much. 80-90%of the stuff i comment is in communitys on lemmy.world since i usually sort by local. i use accounts like a filter.. nsfw stuff only on lemmynsfw, lemmy.ml is my backup if lemmy.world bugs again and lemmy.world my main account and place for all other things.

Well that blows up my theory. Best of luck with everything.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

It was a good guess. The Lemmy updates caused a lot of federation, instance & app issues.

thanks anyway! have a nice evening :)
