I have noticed several attempts recently to minimize his contributions in various cases he brings up as examples of other things that were considered either a conspiracy theory or an abuse of public or private trust.
I haven't had time to dig into this but I'll say this: I used to work in kitchens and I worked my way up from dishwasher to sous chef (no longer what I do). During the time I was a dishwasher, I still knew what was going on in the kitchen.
All this to say that even if he wasn't a leading lawyer on these cases, he was still involved and he's still in the game - he probably picked a few things up along the way. :)
Is he a blowhard who likes to namedrop and brag about his accomplishments? Sure. Doesn't mean he's not smart, motivated, and capable.
