Hello all. I'm not sure how to phrase my question, so bear with me.

Is there a way in DF to slow down how fast it dishes out events? I find myself being overwhelmed by the events as they occur, and not being able to catch up on resolving them.

For example, if I'm working on resolving the ramifications of event A, and event B happens. Then when I just start working on event B, event C happens. And before I'm done with event B, event D happens as well, etc.

Everything from when dwarves get unhappy, to new arrivals, to when attacks happen, etc.

Basically, I'm feeling piled on and cannot get out from under the pile.

Another way of asking the question, can any trigger time threshold on the in-game calendar be slid out into the future for all events, like at a slower 2x or 3x rate? For example, instead of the check for new arrivals happening every year, have the check/arrivals happen every second or third year, etc.

I don't think so: the first two migrant waves are guaranteed to happen with the same timing every fort for example. There might be a way, but I didn't see anything on the wiki about it.

I was hoping for something similar to how Rimworld paces the events based on which storyteller you choose, some kind of options switch in-game I could set.

I can't check right now (traveling/busy), but I'd bet that DFhack would have some settings for this. Failing that, check for mods, there may be one out there that adjusts event timers.

I did a search for mods, but my ModFu is not strong, and could not find anything.

Didn't see a DFHack (I installed it) option either.

If you (or anyone) knows of such, I'd appreciate being educated about it (thanks in advance).

So I was finally able to check myself, and I can confirm, there really is no such mod out there. I'm surprised, honestly.

I suppose setting some variables at world creation could make for a less eventful game, but I haven't tried this myself.

And just a tip thar could help: you can automate A LOT with dfhack. This won't make less stuff happen, but it can help a lot to free up your attention for important stuff. Quickfort/bluebrints, seedwatch, and work orders are my favorites.

Appreciate you taking the time out to check, thanks.

From what I was told, the thing that's closest to what I'm looking for is the setting for the 'Game FPS', versus the 'Video FPS'.

I had mine said to my monitors refresh rate (which is 144 MHz), so I backed that down to 60, and I'm told I can get that as low as 30 if I wanted to.

Between that, and turning off (on the Embark setting) things like werebeasts attacks got me close to where I want. After my fort is established I can turn some of those settings back on, so I can start using my military.

But yeah, I wish there was just a equivalent of what Rimworld has, where you can choose the pacing for when events happen, so that I don't have the micromanage other settings.

Should be possible just in the settings, chance the attack periods, population caps and various triggers

Actually if you're in the settings anyway, there is an easier way: just reduce the game speed so you have more time to do stuff
