This community appears to have been abandoned by the current moderator. Their account shows no activity for the past 4 months. They have also not responded to a direct message I sent several weeks ago.

Would anyone like to step up and become the new moderator? We should have an active user in that role.

@[email protected] / @[email protected] I’m mentioning you here for transparency. If you ever come back to Lemmy you should have a notification directing you to this post.

The real fantasy element of Dungeons & Dragons is pretending that you have a group of friends who all get along with each other and can manage to meet regularly for four hours at a time.

cross-posted from [email protected] - a lemmy community that natively features mastodon posts (and their replies) so we're not using screenshots, and lemmy users have the opportunity to respond to the original author.

edit: I realise now that the cross-link won't show up correctly, 'cos no-one on sh.itjust.works is subbed to tails, but if anyone ever does, I'll try again with a different post.

Via siderea | The Austrian Grocery Price Comparison Website Story [tech, law, Austria]:

The following is magnificent, and I commend it to you.

Over on Mastodon, programmer Mario Zechner gives a first person account of how his exasperation with his government's (Austria) corruption and ineptitude led to him preempting a government web development boondoggle, and subsequently unearthing a whole world of anti-competitive illegal grocery pricing and precipitating federal antitrust action. A heartwarming story of screenscraping, data science, and international amity.

#PPOD: Pictured, behind this darker cloud, is a pileus iridescent cloud, a group of water droplets that have a uniformly similar size and so together diffract different colors of sunlight by different amounts. T Also captured were unusual cloud ripples above the pileus cloud. The formation of a rare pileus cloud capping a common cumulus cloud is an indication that the lower cloud is expanding upward and might well develop into a storm. Credit: Jiaqi Sun

Following the German @ZDF and @tagesschau, the BBC is giving Mastodon a go through their own server. You can now follow the official @BBCRadio4 and a few other accounts on social.bbc!

I don't think it's any secret that there's a bit of a stuffy vibe on Mastodon. Does anyone have recommendations for hashtags they follow that pull more lighthearted content into their feed?

Goats in Trees (sh.itjust.works)
submitted 1 year ago by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

text from post:

If you need to be delighted by something this morning, I present the tree goats of Morocco.

I was driving near Essaouira the first time I saw this and literally slammed on my brakes because I thought I was suddenly hallucinating. But then you learn how common it is and after a day or two it's, oh, yeah, more goats in trees.

God damn it, I never make dad jokes, but the electrician just showed up and it is a husband+wife duo. I could not resist a "ah, power couple" and it fell flat, fam. IT FELL FLAT.
