Welcome to the fold!

A community for all Bromptonites of the Fediverse!

The Brompton is a folding bicycle which is known for its unique design and compact folded size. The 3-part fold transforms the bike into an incredibly small locked package in no time.

Made in London, UK - loved all over the world. <3

Anyone who has journeyed deep into the mountain ranges of Europe to take on some of the legendary climbs of the Grand Tours understands what it is like to stand on top of a mountain, breathing in the cold, thin air while surveying landscapes that roll away far below.

But British adventurer and all-round action man Neil Laughton, 60, took that achievement several levels higher when he journeyed to Nepal to set a new Guinness World Record for the highest ever bike ride.

Teaming up with Nepali Sirdar Nima Kanchha Sherpa, the pair rode and carried their bikes to the top of the 7,246-metre high Putha Huinchuli mountain over a period of several days, were Laughton rode 20 metres at the highest point, before turning tail and journeying back down again.

Laughton's machine of choice was a Brompton, while Nima used a Cube mountain bike for the ride.

I've been researching for ages but struggling to tell what's the exact best product. Ideally I'd like a combination of products that allows for usb c charging (to be seen primarily) that feels tightly integrated into the Brompton. I like the fork integration of the official light but would prefer usb c charging. I can more easily find appropriate mounts to attach to the screw on the back of the saddle. I've seen AliExpress brackets that use GoPro style mount holes then you adapt to Garmin/Cateye or whatever but I haven't seen photos of them in use and I've read they can interfere with the luggage block. Ideally someone else would have a combo of products that I can see works aesthetically and practically and I'd just get the same.

What do people here use?

I'm picking up a C Line Explore and wondering why there's a weight difference between these two. I'm interested in the free bag but I assume there are structural differences if the one above is a KG lighter?

This is how a #brompton EZ clamp spring looks like after a decent few months of usage.

As you can see, it's quite compressed now and, as a result, not springy enough to hold the clamp up properly anymore.

That lifespan is not bad by any means (easy enough to re-print) but does that happen to y'all too or is it just me?

It's also just the handlebar one; the other is holding up fine.

I remember seeing a variant of this which had an actual metal spring inside; I might look into that.

Printed myself an EZ clamp spring for my #brompton at @cccda yesterday; a must-have for any @brompton rider!

It's *so* handy to have a local #hackspace with amazing people to help you out for this sort of stuff. Much love <3

Another plus is: They are pretty easy to install as they have the clamp on the inner side of the handle and not on outer side (as the GP1 have). So interference with the break leaverclapmp is not that problematic.

I was on a short trip on the weekend and wanted to have my luggage on the bike instead of carrying it on my back. (Unfortunately, I don't have a front bag yet.)

Some detailed shots of the attachment:

Wooden rod attached to underside of Brompton Backpack and backpack shoulder straps layed over

During my trip I realized that my legs are hitting the rod a little. I repositioned it a little further back during the tour.

Backpack attached to Brompton rear rack

To increase the stability, you can wrap the rubber straps around the rack (behind the wheel) which will increase the tension of the straps.

The idea was taken from Gianni who has a lot of great tips around Bromptons touring: https://piped.video/watch?v=vfQe4f0jbZs

I tried #Ergon GP2 handlebar grips today on my #Brompton (M bar, 2023 version) - and I have mixed feelings. 😒

After removing the stock grips and trying to fit the GP2's, the realization came pretty quick: they are roughly 1cm too long. So, I cut them to the right size (as a lot of others also did).

Now they fit nicely, but since the horns are using up space on sides of the grips, my (large) hands don't have enough space and now my thumbs collide a little with the shifters.

Hills! But I love hills! and sky, and space, & freedom, wild freedom

Original description from Video:

In May, I took my Brompton and my little tent and cycled through the Peak District, to go and see my Dad. There were a lot of hills - and quite a lot of inquisitive cows - along the way. I camped wild, close to Axe Edge Moor, high up at the watershed of two great river systems. And it was fantastic.

Hills aren't easy, but I love them. Especially these hills, close to where I grew up. I don't know what it is - something to do with being up high, the sky, and the space, and solitude, and a feeling of wild freedom.

And I hope you enjoy meeting my Dad! We are both being treated for cancer, and we both love being out on the bike.

Hope you like the film!

The new color "emerald lacquer" available for the Brompton P-line looks soooo cool. 😍

I love my matcha green C-line, but this would have been such an awesome color.

There are some more pictures on Bromptons website if anyone is interested: https://www.brompton.com/shop/bikes/p-line-urban?color=emerald-lacquer&handlebar=mid

The T Line is already such a great bike - but "Brompton Family Time" always need that special extra.

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION FROM VIDEO:

Please watch this video if you are interested in the custom parts that I have installed onto my Brompton T Line. At the end of the video I also include the final weight. Thank you for following along with this build. This is my dream bike that I have wanted for over ten years. I still love my superlight Brompton just as much as well as my all steel Brompton. They all have a purpose for me and I enjoy riding them all!
