The bank agreed to plead guilty to charges that it violated the Bank Secrecy Act in federal court in New Jersey last week. TD also settled a number of civil investigations by the U.S. Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, the Federal Reserve and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.

According to prosecutors, TD Bank’s U.S. unit failed to uphold proper anti-money laundering controls for almost a decade, from 2014 to 2023, during which time prosecutors said numerous criminal enterprises were able to transact through the bank. This included a Chinese drug trafficking group that bribed bank employees and was ultimately able to launder more than $470 million in cash linked to the sale of fentanyl and other illegal drugs, as well as another money laundering scheme that sent tens of millions of dollars to Colombia.

There’s already been a vetting process to weed out some resolutions, but this one made it through, which suggests “someone in the party thinks that this is worth debating,” Young said.

“I think this reminds us that the base of the UCP is host to a pretty substantial group of people who do not believe that climate change is real, or they don't believe that it is driven by human activity, and they think that any actions taken to transition away from fossil fuels are unnecessary.”

City councillor says the project is a low-cost effort to add some greenery. Others say it takes away already limited parking space in the Plateau.

The general public seems to be missing the point of the curb extensions as a traffic calming initiative with the added benefits of greenery. Instead focusing on the removal of parking spaces, and not on the increased visibility and lower vehicle speeds these types of installation promote.

This is money that should have gone into healthcare to pay doctors and nurses more, to hire more doctors and nurses, to open more spots in medical and nursing schools to train more doctors, or into education to increase teacher pay or the number of teachers or the condition of it schools. How about to pay for bussing so our buses aren't cancelled 1 or 2 days a week because of a lack of drivers willing to drive or kids for poverty wages?

This is a very expensive political stunt. He's throwing you a few bucks so that you will ignore the billions of dollars of graft his government is committing.

If every person in Kemptville Ontario signed over their cheque to the local hospital it would be able to buy the CT machine it's been fundraising for, a CT machine the government should be paying for in the first place

I pledge to say fuck you to Doug Ford and his stupid political stunt and to sign poverty my $200 cheque to KDH the day it arrives to help pay for the CT machine my taxes should have already paid for.

Please consider doing the same. Sign over your cheque, your hard earned tax dollars, to a local school or hospital. That's where this money should have gone anyway.

Wesley Wark, a national security expert with the Centre for International Governance Innovation, said Trudeau's testimony wasn't terribly revealing.

Wark pointed to the report the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians (NSICOP) released in June, which suggested some parliamentarians had been "'semi-witting or witting participants" in foreign interference activities.

Wark also said it's not clear to what extent the unnamed parliamentarians could be compromised — and suggested many may not even be aware that they are.

In the past, Poilievre has defended his decision not to receive a national security clearance and get briefed by intelligence agencies by arguing that it would prevent him from speaking freely and criticizing the government on foreign interference issues.

"Just because you have a security clearance doesn't mean you have to become a Carthusian monk and never speak," he said. He also said that Poilievre could choose to be briefed only on issues affecting his own party if he wanted to create a buffer ensuring he could criticize the government on foreign interference.

"Importantly, these changes include strict limits on disclosing personal information about Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or any individuals in Canada, as well as the names of Canadian entities or corporations, without additional authorizations," said Townsend.

"CSIS welcomes any opportunity to brief elected officials about the threat landscape at any classification that is appropriate."
