Some relevant stats:

Net losses widened to $1.06 billion, or $7.64 a share, from $128.9 million, or 93 cents a share, in the same period a year ago.

Revenue dropped 23.2% to $1.29 billion, below the FactSet consensus of $1.34 billion.

Among Hasbro’s business segments, Wizards of the Coast and Digital Gaming revenue increased 10%, as growth in digital gaming licenses offset slight declines in Wizards tabletop and digital games sales.

The new owner hasn't been revealed yet but they did have this to say:

We're not quite ready to let people know who the new stewards are, but we can tell you that Cardsphere is being taken over by a major player in the greater Magic community. If you play Magic, you have absolutely used their services.

Hope this means that they grow the service!

Troll and Toad has been one of the biggest and longest running gaming stores selling MTG. Sadly they're going to stop selling all Magic singles and sealed product (!) as of January 1, 2024.

The reasons they cite are that:

  • MTG is less profitable now vs other games
  • Reserved list reprints in 30A "spooked" them
  • The "constant reprinting of valuable cards and the number of variants of these cards made buylist pricing difficult and sometimes resulted in buying cards at a loss."

"Magic is not profitable enough for our company to continue carrying right now," said Burns to ICv2. "Sometimes it felt like I was only stocking Magic product because I loved the game so much."

[[Herald of War]], [[Urza's Workshop]], and [[Ugin, the Spirit Dragon]] are this week's price spikes.

Looks like Amazon now has the regular LTR bundles for $65. With this foil copy of The One Ring going for ~$45 on TCG Player that's roughly $20 for 8 set boosters, some lands, the die, and storage box which isn't too bad. The price of The One Ring should probably drop with this but still seems pretty good!

Last night, Brook Trafton, the Canadian Magic: The Gathering fan who originally opened a 1 of 1 variant The One Ring card . . . revealed that he sold the card to Post Malone.

[[Sauron's Ransom]] has been showing up in Modern in Dimir Control decks along with Orcish Bowmasters, while in Legacy it shows up in Grixis Delver decks.

[[Ichormoon Gauntlet]] is a good upgrade for the CMM Planeswalker Party deck.

The CMM Sliver deck also boosted a ton of slivers, include [[Sliver Hive]], [[Sliver Legion]], and [[The First Sliver]].

Finally with CMM Eldrazi deck, [[Eye of Ugin]] and [[Emrakul, the Promised End]] both went insane.

Corey Williams discusses private value (an individual's personal value for something) vs. common value (the same value assigned to something by everyone interested in it) in the unique case of the 9 different versions of Nazgûl printed in LTR.
