Hey! I'm currently pursuing my Private Pilot License (PPL-A) and have been considering incorporating flight simulation into my study routine.

Has anyone found flight simulation to be a valuable part of their training, and if so, how specifically did you use it?

Thank you in advance for sharing your experiences and insights!

Still an enjoyable flight. Can't wait for more long haulers in MSFS!

AMD Chill limits your FPS basically. You can enable it in Adrenalin.

Wish it could go lower than 30, but it's a quick way to toggle between 60+ fps and 30. Will definitely be using it when I arrive in the cruise phase from now on.

From Reddit:

TL;DR

  • Thin client, less to download, faster loading times, helps keep min specs low

  • All new physics and aerodynamics engine with much more control for aircraft developers to define aircraft surfaces/geometry to make full use of the flight dynamics.

  • Fully simulated hot air balloon physics.

  • Massive performance improvements, multi-threaded

  • Backwards-compatible (community folder still there)

  • Updated systems (electrical, pneumatic, fuel and hydraulic)

  • Failure, wear and tear system

  • Payload and passenger system overhaul

  • Deeper and wider avionics packages

  • Enhanced tree diversity

  • Improved cliffs

  • 3rd tessellated ground materials

  • Improved ground details - Screenshot

  • Full seasons

  • Aurora borealis, tornados, improved storms

  • Animals herds and migration

  • World live ship traffic

  • Accurate live traffic + more real liveries

  • Improved vehicle traffic

It's looking pretty good, hope the transition from FS2020 to FS2024 will be a smooth one!

New flightsim drama in the making!

Anybody have an idea about what's going on?

When is a level of detail considered "obsessive"? Asking for a friend.

Airspeed, Vertical speed, manifold pressure, RPM and fuel flow are all working as expected. Night lighting on the GPS and audio panel is working fabulously. There is night lighting on the center stack, but it's too subtle and will need some adjustments.

Manipulators are going to take a bit longer because I built a lot before really understanding how manipulators worked, so I have to go back and correct some things.

Hi.

So, what the title says. It would be nice to fly for a virtual airline in this new community that celebrates the federated environment. Hearing something like 'Federated Airlines', or 'Lemmy Airways' etc. in VATSIM would IMO eventually help attracting users. Same as, for example, that Hoggit Fighter Wing. I don't necessarily want to mention any other aggregation webs, just using it as an example.

I recently learned of some VA online software that makes it easier than it used to be, such as NewSky. If by September or so, when I am back from where I'll spend the summer time, there is none, I might go ahead and try creating it myself.

I just leave here the naive idea in case someone has the will, energy, time and resources to do it.

EDIT: I couldn't help but dig into the idea and already coming up with what I'd like/plan to do.

Name: DecentralAir (DEC) - generic enough not to be specific to Lemmy, Mastodon, etc.
Charter focused, more than fixed routes. This goes in the line of freedom and decentralization.
As HQ, it will be KFFA. Not a big airport, but a significant one for aviation. Then there can be as many hubs as needed, not a central one.
Still thinking of what a good logo would be.

How do you feel about it that Microsoft decided to make a new game instead of it being an update for MSFS 2020? Do you think you will buy it or just stick with the 2020 version?

I've been into flight simulators since the early eighties, with Psion Figher Pilot being my very first simulator.

Since then, I have gone through quite a few, and many of them being issues of the famous civil ones (Microsoft Flight Simulator 'xx or XPlane). I never had the need of a background, not even needed to be part of a virtual airline.

Nowadays, however, I am feeling the lack of motivation. Seems to me that, ironically, more realism does not equal to more fun or motivation, and I just don't know why.

Getting to the point, while I don't either expect or want MSFS 2024 to be any kind of RPG game, I do feel like the things you can do as announced (actual transport, SAR, etc.) might be what I need. I will let the gamifying part be done by 3rd party apps and hopefully the new sim features will allow these add-ons to widen their scope.

In short, everybody is very surprised about the announcement of MSFS24, and they are quick to mention nothing will change for now.

Is there a federated r/hoggit-like place already? What should a federated hoggit be called? Foggit? Or just [email protected]?

As for me personally, I mostly fly helicopters and mid-late cold war jets (guess my favorite) in DCS though I sometimes do MSFS and have previously flown X-Plane (7,8,11).

I use a VR headset, HP Reverb G2, with Virpil HOTAS and MFG pedals. Ryzen 5800X3D with an RTX3080.

Scam or amazing? What are your thoughts?

I really DO like the additional "purpose" that will be added to the sim. I really don't like the not unlikely possibility that all that add-on money spent on the "old" flight simulator will be wasted.

Today’s trailer was a short teaser to introduce Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. We are excited to share much more information about the next generation of the Microsoft Flight Simulator franchise in the coming months. We have been monitoring your feedback to the trailer very closely and apologize for our delayed communication. We would like to take the opportunity to address some of the most common questions we’ve seen.

Will Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 be a completely standalone sequel, or will it also be offered as a paid update for existing players?

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is a standalone simulator and the next-generation sequel to Microsoft Flight Simulator that launched in 2020. Current aircraft and airports that are in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020), as well as virtually all Marketplace add-ons, will be supported in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

What kind of support can Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) players expect to see once Flight Simulator 2024 has been released?

We will continue to deliver our Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) Roadmap which has content ranging from Aircraft and Avionics Updates, Sim Updates, City and World Updates, and also the free Dune DLC. We will continue to support Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) post the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 launch.

Will all purchases users have made from the Marketplace be transferrable to the new simulator?

With very few exceptions, virtually all add-ons that work in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) today will function in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Add-ons that were purchased from the in-simulator Marketplace will not need to be re-purchased in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

Been taking advantage of a longer-than-expected stretch of under-employment to get some work done on a pet project.

I got a discount because they only put the panels on one wing.

Wow... This looks amazing!

Probably an update on FS2020? Or a new standalone thing? Very excited regardless!

Edit:
New game instead of an update. Confirmed by Xbox on Twitter.

Sequel? Not an update for MFS 2020?

that's right, a brand new sequel!

Now let's hope it won't be abandonware after a couple of weeks... I'm looking forward to a good widebody in MSFS!
