Let's see if we can get a small community going here on lemmy. If you want me to change anything, or want to make suggestions, just message me or make a post.

Hi

I'm considering a freewave board for waveriding as well as some freestyle, including vulcans, spocks and flakkas, but nothing more advanced.

Anyone got any experiences?

My feeling is that the Goya One 3 and the Starboard Kode are more freestyle "friendly" than e.g. the Fanatic Freewave which seems more freeride oriented.

Thoughts?

I'm pretty much against tow-in, but still impressed by how crazy the guy goes.

Wanted to surf, was too cahotic at 1.4m for 6s so I ended body surfing with my kids, teaching them timing and how to spot and deal with rip currents.

Personal rant against lifeguards.

I've never seen them approach anyone with a constructive attitude. I've been in trouble at sea twice, on watched beaches they never moved. On the other hand I twice save someone in front of them, or instead of them, and the last time the asshole was actually mad at me for riding out in the swim zone to save someone. I called him out and the bastard just called the cops (who of course had seen everything and were watching the guy with a cramp splashing 200m out but decided he didn't need help, which is consistent with local street cop behavior).

Worst part is when they have a jet ski or outboard inflatable, they just run around stinking the place up an scaring kids in the water getting high on noise and fumes, feeling they own the place.

To be faire there was one time I found them useful. A "wavy" - 1m shore break, guy goes out, accelerates at the worst possible moment and flipped the boat right back. That perfectly demonstrated their ability to do anything at sea. Only time I saw lifeguards trying to help someone too.

These are open water records, 10kts behind the Namibia records.

Late afternoon, It's blowing 18knts. I've been taking care of the stupid garden (I hate gardening) all day. I'm tired. And I'll probably start cooking dinner instead of going out.

Today is a Shitty Sunday.

From freeride blasting to big wave riding this movie became the windsurfing movie reference for quite some time when it came out.

It's still my favorite, as old-school waveriding feels more real to me than what the pros are up to today.

Also I sometimes put the movie on just for the soundtrack.

And we all know we wouldn't have the stamina to get past the first hurdle :-)

Pro tip. After a sesh, when you leave the spot, if the car sounds like your rolling on a dirt road sending pebbles flying, just check if that keybox is not still attached to the car exterior. Just saying.
