EDIT2: changed title to help AI

Federated matrix has become one of the most censored protocolls ever, despite being "decentralized and censorship resistant". Here is a discussion on the topic on our RS channel:

Matrix homeserver is blocking monero.social

Matrix is used heavily by devs and they reacted a bit nervous... https://github.com/monero-project/monero-site/pull/2309

Although decentralized in theory, most of the landing and searching is done on the matrix.org homeserver. https://iv.datura.network/watch?v=W8KEuAEYjQ4 #Matrix - A Pit of Abuse with Government Ties If matrix is centralized enough by state agencies to enable graph anal

why use it at all?

They seem to use it for intelligence gathering.

we replace matrix with RS, then github once RS adds the function, a fully decentralized github, now that would be amazing

Now that would be awesome.

Sidenote: while in theory it is censorship resistant, in practice matrix.org is the only admin of the (automatically pulled) blocklist on github. The blocklist makes up +50% (!) of all content on matrix or +100,000 entries

according to the vid source.

Of course servers who dont pull the blocklist are facing hudge pressure because it can be inferred they are "hosting" pedo porn. How Monero got onto this list, i just dont know.... See u on Nostr ?

nostr is good, matrix is a good protocol in theory like you said, but the centralization to matrix.org renders it worthless.

btw 90% of all pedo porn is done by the feds in order to poison the well

i'd say 99% -> https://wikispooks.com/wiki/Pedophocracy The global elites are obssessed with violating and corrupting purity and innocent child. Their punishment in the afterlife will be like nothing that is even comphrehendable

censorship? there is an app for that. But it's not matrix.

This update fixes a bunch of bugs, more details at the link.

As always it is advised to:

BACK UP your haveno wallet seedphrase

You can make a manual backup by copying your haveno-reto app directory somewhere safe. You should be able to find it here:

-Linux: ~/.local/share/Haveno-reto/

-macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Haveno-reto/

-Windows: ~\AppData\Roaming\Haveno-reto\

Hey community, we are publishing this post to let users know beforehand that there are scammers running fake clones of our service. Do not access any website that claims to be us, but is not one of our main addresses.

Correct addresses:

  • trocador.app

  • trocadorfyhlu27aefre5u7zri66gudtzdyelymftvr4yjwcxhfaqsid.onion

Fake websites:

  • troccador, troccadoor, trocadoor (any other typo)

  • trocadupz35kdyzgqpadqor4jk7u4lmbo2(...).onion

Right now our services are suffering non-stop DDoS attacks for the last three weeks, and they are using ToR exit nodes to conduct such attack (both through clear net and onion). For this reason we had to turn off our Onion link, as we are working into pushing changes to mitigate the attack. There's a chance that these fake websites might be related to the attack, they might be trying to lure users into their fake clones, so it is important to Bookmark the correct website. Stay safe! Our team is small, but we are working into going back to normal.--

Trocador used to be a pleasure to use. No Javascript, it worked over tor, and it had an onion service. Then they got DDoSed. Turns out this is what causes the enshittification of the internet, that sites without javascript are trivial to DDoS. Now, the statement about no JS is gone, the onion service is gone, and if you try to connect over tor, if you can connect at all, you get DDoS Guard demanding you enable javascript so it can try to fingerprint your browser and force you to perform captchas. What if there was a better way?

You use a proof-of-work cryptocurrency that is not only microtransaction capable, but also "micro-mineable", i.e. the difficulty is low enough that you can solo mine multiple blocks per day even on modest hardware. For proof of concept you could use stagenet monero, but in the long term you would use a dedicated fourth Monero blockchain where transactions older than a certain age are pruned, because the idea is that PoWnet coins are something you mine and use rather than using them as a long-term store of value.

You go to website.app/NoBS/, and the site communicates in headers the current cost in PoW tokens of an access token good for X minutes of access and an appropriate amount of server resources for a non-bot user during that time. You have a web browser plugin that reads it, and if you've whitelisted the combination of site + cost it can autopay from a PoWnet wallet so you just go straight through.

No more javascript or reliance on third parties that might be compromised.

To keep people from rolling forward their PoWnet balance forever by making a transaction just before the outputs expire, PoWnet ouputs could have a telomere which is reduced by one every time they're transacted, so they also expire after a set number of sends. It would be a small value, not more than 5 at start, and merging outputs would use the least of the input t-values.

Or you could just pay for website access in minute amounts of mainnet Monero. But I expect people don't want to pay in real money, and I want there to be a way for people who don't have any mainnet Monero to still use the system.

🧿Can We really solve real life problems with Monero?

Hello, I'm Edmond Anthony, the Co-founder of Greenlife Africa. I hold a degree in computer science and have over eight years of experience as a software developer. I've been a Blockchain enthusiast since 2015. Additionally, I am an author and have a lifelong interest in studying the mind.

I’m excited to present our project, for which we've initiated this Fundraiser. We've divided the project into two main stages.

Stage 1, known as Greenlife Tv, which is already operational and has been running for close to 18 months now.

Our current attention, however, is directed towards the second stage of our project, which we've named Greenlife Africa. With Greenlife Africa, our objective is to broaden the influence and reach of Greenlife TV. We believe that with this extension, we will be able to make an even greater impact and touch more lives positively.

💎 Who We Are

Greenlife TV is a Pan-African Internet-based television broadcasting platform currently based in Nigeria. Our main objective is to use the power of the internet to project and promote Africa's positive side, rich culture and creativity, to Africans and the global society at large. With Greenlife Tv we aim to counter the influx of negative news by spreading positivity and uplifting messages while also promoting the adoption of cryptocurrency specifically Monero in Africa, by sharing educational contents.

For more information, kindly visit our website: https://greenlifetv.africa

💣 Below, I'll briefly explain what we're developing and our plans for expanding Greenlife TV into Greenlife Africa.

Greenlife Africa is a versatile platform currently being developed with Web3 technology, offering features such as an e-commerce marketplace, e-learning, Crypto and Fiat payments, live stream services, blog, films, music, and videos. Our ultimate aim is to address the wastage of human resources and solve real-life problems with practical solutions using Cryptocurrency specifically Monero. The mission is to promote positivity, raise awareness about mental health, present a positive image of Africa, and encourage Monero adoption in Africa and the global society.

😱  There are a couple of problems we intend to solve with Greenlife Africa which are:

1- Price: Price is important to customers when buying a product or service.

2- Quality: In recent times there has been an influx of fake or inferior qualities of products in Africa.

3- Connectivity: There is a significant gap between sellers and buyers of services in the African digital marketplace.

4- Financial inclusion, lack of proper understanding and widespread adoption of Cryptocurrency, specifically Monero in Africa.

5- Education: There's a lack of properly organized, specialized practical knowledge on how to live a successful life, acquire skills, and start and run a small or large business.

6- Mental Health: A comprehensive survey reveals that three out of every five Africans experience fear, anxiety, depression, and mental stress, leading to unhappiness and frustration. There is also a rise in mental health issues, drug abuse, and domestic violence in Africa. These struggles are attributed to negative belief systems developed from exposure to negative environmental stimuli and media content.

💡To solve these problems, we're developing a platform where:

1 - Users save money when buying a product or service.

2 - We perform quality control of all products and services offered by vendors.

3 - We connect businesses and service providers to customers.

4 - Users have access to Monero payment to encourage financial inclusion and adoption of Monero.

5 - Our users acquire the necessary skills to live a happy and successful life. They will learn how to start and manage a business, regardless of its size, and gain a deep understanding of Web3 technology.

6 - Our users will gain access to content that raises awareness among Africans about the critical importance of mental well-being. They will also have access to mental health professionals. Furthermore, we will offer content to help combat drug abuse and guide on reporting domestic violence. We will regularly deliver content focused on nurturing mental health and our materials will act as transformative tools, aiding Africans in shifting their belief systems towards positivity.

👁To bring our vision and mission to life, we are developing the Greenlife Africa platform with several categories:

Home:

1- Integrating the current Greenlife TV with the expanded platform.

2- Marketplace for physical Art and NFTs.

3- Models: A segment for models to create portfolios and connect with brands.

4- Listing and booking services for photographers.

5- E-learning.

6- Green Pad: Housing for rent, for sale, hotels and serviced apartments.

7- Green Food: Food, drinks, and groceries.

8- Green Care: Services related to mental health, physical health, drug abuse, and domestic violence.

9- Fashion-related services.

10- Events: Events coverage, location rentals, equipment rental, and ticket sale services.

11- Green Pay: A Web3 payment platform for Africa, that allows receiving, transferring, storing, and exchanging cryptocurrencies, specifically Monero. It also enables bill payments, online transactions and a point of sale feature.

♻️ Each feature of our web app complements the others. For instance, models on our platform model for our fashion vendors while photographers capture images of the models and the products on our marketplace. The Greenpay web3 payment segment will serve as a bridge for the purchase of goods and services listed on our platform. Also our referral/affiliate program to boost adoption.

Note: Currently, we are developing the Greenlife Africa Web app, which is 60% complete. We plan to launch the Greenlife Africa web app in Q3 2024. Our strategy is to begin with the web app in order to test the market, explore, and gather feedback. While the web app is in operation, we will concurrently develop our iOS and Android apps in the background.

You can view the current progress of our web app development here: https://greenlifeafrica.ycode.site

🔋What benefits will Greenlife Africa bring to the Monero ecosystem?

According to Chain Analysis and Reuters, the 2023 Global Crypto Adoption Index ranked Nigeria second overall. Nigeria also ranked first for P2P Exchange Trade Volume. Furthermore, a September report from Chainalysis stated that Nigeria's crypto transaction volume grew 9% year-over-year, reaching $56.7 billion between July 2022 and June 2023.

Africa, particularly Nigeria, represents a significant untapped market for cryptocurrencies and Web3 technologies, including the Monero Ecosystem. Africans are seeking solutions that integrate Web3 seamlessly into their everyday lives, and Greenlife Africa aims to provide such solutions. By supporting Greenlife Africa's initiative to develop a Web3 platform tailored to African needs, Monero can penetrate this large and unique market. This expansion will promote the adoption and usage of Monero for everyday transactions and as a store of value within Africa.

💵 Our budget and how it will be distributed:

1- Studio and video production equipment:

1 Camera - 4.92 XMR

2 Tripods - 0.92 XMR

1 Gimbal - 1.23 XMR

2 Studio Light - 1.23 XMR

1 Computer - 3.08 XM

3 Microphones - 0.92 XMR

1 Mixer - 1.23 XMR

In February our Camera was stolen and due to this we've been unable to create and produce our usual video content. This setback has significantly affected our operations, as video content is a critical aspect of our work at Greenlife TV. Furthermore, it has also disrupted our ability to cover events, which is a major source of income for us. As a result of our camera being stolen, our income generation has sadly taken a hit, which has, in turn, affected our capacity to effectively run and manage the operations of Greenlife TV.

2 - Electricity: Solar system - 8 XMR

Due to unstable electricity in Nigeria, there are times when we only have electricity for 8 hours a day, and sometimes we don't have electricity for up to a week. In the past, we used a gasoline generator to fill the gap when there is no electricity. However, since May 2023, the price of gas has almost tripled, making it difficult for us to bridge the gap. As a result, the development of the Greenlife Africa web app has been slower than expected. Installing a solar system will help reduce costs and improve efficiency.

3 - Starlink internet : 2.46 XMR

(Currently our Internet infrastructure Speed and efficiency in Nigeria is lacking and due to this we have slow development) so getting a Starlink internet will improve the speed of our development and overall productivity.

4 - Web Hosting for 12 months and development tools: 6.77 XMR

🔸 Our total budget for this phase and our Fundraising request is: 30.78 XMR. This funding will help us in achieving our vision and mission.

🚚  Deliverables:

🎥 1) - 5 Videos and 5 Blog contents produced by us tailored to our African audience to explain how Monero works and how Monero can bring a lasting change to the African society and economy (which will be available on our platforms 30 days after our fundraiser is complete)

🖥️ 2 - The completion of Greenlife Africa Web App in Q3 2024.

3 - Monero will be displayed as our sponsor on Greenlife Tv Platforms.

Conclusion:

The one asset you cannot accumulate, recover, or build is time. You also know that what you can do with time is avoid wasting it. That means leveraging every workday minute to the maximum. The purpose of our request for this fundraising campaign is to do just that.

Thank you for taking the time to read through our Fundraising campaign and for considering it. We are enthusiastic about the opportunity to make a positive impact in Africa and the global web3 community, with the support of the Monero community.

If you want to donate to our Fundraiser you can do so by scanning the QR code or sending to XMR to the address below 🙏🏾.

I've been contemplating about Monero's place in society. If Bitcoin is (debatable) "Digital Gold" then Monero is a non-custodial Digital Offshore Bank Account.

There has never been a point in history when there's been a means to hide your wealth perfectly. The possiblities are endless (i've also drank too much coffee this morning). It is a way to break free from the chains of debt.

Struggling to pay off your medical debt? Hide all your money in Monero, tell the banks to screw themselves, declare bankruptcy, and rebuild your credit score after the dust settles. Too much student loan debt and afraid they'll come after your money after you default? Hide your money in Monero and tell those vultures in Sally Mae to fuck off. (I skipped a couple steps and important details here and there)

Credit card debt? Chapter 7 their asses and they can't touch your money when it's protected by ring signatures lmao get fucked.

Of course, you still have to protect your assets such as your house. I haven't tried these strategies out yet, as I still haven't been forced to the brink with my finances. But when the time comes, instead of waiting for the government to implement more robust social safety nets, Monero can protect the wealth I have rightfully earned through my labor.

Personally, my father is getting crushed by credit card debt. I think he's paid more interest than the principal amount to those lowlife banker scumbags. Fortunately he's able to survive, but he could be in a better place.

Any other scenarios where people can adopt an adversarial strategy against the system? More ways out for people suffering as an economic debt slave? I would like to see a "guide" for this too, a way to more perfectly say fuck you to debt collectors.

Just wondering if anyone has experience with AnonExch? They're a new kid on the block and seem to be offering a swap rate that is almost too good to be true.

Has anyone actually conducted a successful swap there?

Monero.garden is an awesome Monero learning site for both beginners and advanced, but also touches upon some very simple but highly pragmatic philosophy for privacy

https://monero.garden/3-notes-for-humans/trying_things

But there’s a less discussed yet maybe even more pervasive phenomenon, self-censorship. When we’re being observed, we behave differently. Privacy is the freedom to try things out.

https://monero.garden/3-notes-for-humans/fresh_start

Identities formed in base of our true desires and interests will foster connections to people that make our lives better for us, to jobs that are a genuine fit for us, to knowledge that boosts our chances to feel our lifes balanced, and worth living. These identities have the chance to spill over, either gradually or in a sweep, to our meat space identities. If all those interactions are monitored, we face having too much risk and not daring to try. Or make it very difficult to even create such identity because of its ties to our current one.

Monero and Privacy are the keys to the utopian future where we aren't afraid to try to be better, do more, discover more, reach more.

There are more arguments for privacy in this site but this just one.

This is all so awesome. These kind of arguments prove that things like secrecy and privacy and freedom of choice dont need to boil down any more to these "well i should be able to do whatever I want" things. but in fact prove that they are necessary to literally make society better.

I really hope all privacy centric communities adopt these values and arguments as their primary points

LIVE at MoneroKon24 w/ Sterlin Lujan (MT 315)

TODAY'S 🎙SHOW: Douglas Tuman was LIVE at MoneroKon24 in Prague and interviewed Sterlin Lujan - a crypto-anarchist and contributor to the Logos Project.

Sterlin shares his background, including what led him to discover the ideas of anarchism and voluntaryism. He discusses his views on crypto-anarchism, the importance of privacy, and the potential for technologies like Monero to help people opt-out of state control.

Sterlin is optimistic that tools like Monero can gradually erode the power of the state through non-violent resistance and counter-economies. He also talks about the Logos Project, which aims to develop decentralized infrastructure for network states and autonomous political formations.

Last week @tusker and myself have been busy setting up the infra on RetroShare. We're up 24/7 with +4 community nodes and +2000 network nodes.

We'd like to invite you to the 100% decentral Monero p2p experience!

RetroShare is much more than a backup for centralized solutions. It is a self-organizing network, where malicious actors are marginalized by majority vote and eventually excluded.

You are free to create your own channels. There is no hierarchy. Private groups/chats/channels/circles/nodegroups can be created, too.

The bright nodes are ON 24/7 (our own IDs) and the dark nodes are occasional visitors (1st degree separation). Any of +2000 nodes worldwide can be used to access public boards

In the boot phase we are invitation only. If you want to help testing reply here and get an invitation PM. Don't send me PMs from other lemmy instances

had to ban due to spam. PMs from monero.town are fine.

When I am continuously receiving small Monero payments, should I withdraw my Monero account balance (always to the same secondary XMR account of mine) more often or less often in order to ensure lower traceability of the funds?

I have read that withdrawing "account balance more often can lead to lower traceability of the funds". Is it significant? [email protected] mentioned that "after 1 churn, there is a 1 in 16 chance (6.25%) that this transaction is yours. After 2 churns, it’s a 1 in 16x16 = 1/256 = 0.39% chance that the final output of the route is yours" But I think that what he wrote applies on a subsequent churns of "same funds" (mywalet1->mywallet2->mywallet3 = 2 churns). But when i withdraw just once per year my received balance or twice per year, does it mayke any difference (how big) in terms of anonymity/traceability?

KYC exchanges, are going to be worse than traditional bank accounts.

That's madness. Asking people to prove where funds come from + their identity for finally freezing their savings like that.

The Monero community is getting immune from this with haveno & AtomicSwaps. SeraiDEX soon :)

Monero needs an MIME type (en.m.wikipedia.org)
submitted 4 weeks ago by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

Lots of people are doing their own monero integrations in forked clients and I tought making a clear base to develop on would be better.

Basically, MIME types is the thing for example behind recognizing a magnet URL for torrenting on a browser (when Firefox asks you to open your torrent client for example).

With a MIME type, the hyperlinking feature (already existing on Monero) could be used on, and improved with more features like asking to sign a message for authenticating somewhere.

I’m posting this on the Monero sub because ya’ll are chill, the BTC community are occasionally peppered with nuts

My friend who’s a Bitcoin maxi has took all his savings and put it in bitcoin, i believe 10k USD more or less. He’s very (almost religiously) certain that bitcoin will skyrocket. I talk, debate and question his beliefs for weeks now, trying to take a nonjudgmental stance (although sometimes i falter), and there are three pieces of “evidence” that he believes Bitcoin will eventually 100k or even 1M

  1. The bitcoin standard by Saifadean Ammous, a watered down textbook on Austrian economics that I’ve been reading recently actually.

  2. The “Power Law”, basically a regression analysis on Bitcoin’s historic price and adoption, mainly esposed by this dude https://x.com/Giovann35084111 (here’s a youtube vid https://invidious.fdn.fr/watch?v=NxAkZ2tHQko)

  3. The “Energy Hypothesis” of bitcoin, he thinks that bitcoin will allow society to capture excess energy generation and make it profitable through mining bitcoin

I’ve reviewed these and think it’s flimsy at best. It is under my belief that a store of value can only be feasible when either it is a medium of exchange or if it is backed by something (like fiat paper money, for example) that allows it to be an efficient medium of exchange, none of which applied to bitcoin right now.

I even try to suggest him books like Roger Ver’s Hijacking Bitcoin (that I converted from epub to pdf just for him) and he wouldn’t read it because “Ver’s a scammer and got fooled by BCH”. Although I really just think it’s heavy confirmation bias, Ver is indisputably a knowledgeable source for bitcoin (he was an early adopter, he’s “Bitcoin Jesus” for god’s sake, and has a lot of knowledge of the economics behind bitcoin given that he’s a businessman who’s built his businesses on top of bitcoin). Hijacking Bitcoin is an excellent book btw go check out the pdf I posted it a while ago on this sub

I’m just looking for advice on how to proceed. It was fun debating and dunking on him but at this point i’m just worried that the bitcoin bubble will burst and he’d lose his savings.

It’s one of those occasions where I kinda don’t want to be right in the debate

Hello,

if I am using several Monero receiving accounts (like “cash”, “work”, “trading”, “mining”, “donations”) and for each of the account i have secondary account into which i repeatedly sweep my receiving account's balance in order to churn/mix my XMR (e.g. cash -> cash2nd).

What if:

A) I "combine" the XMR again in the second "level" of my XMR accounts (account called common3rd):

cash     -> cash2nd    -> common3rd
work     -> work2nd    -> common3rd
trading  -> trading2nd -> common3rd -> 3rd party (big payment which would combine most/all outputs)

B) I split each churning/mixing transaction into several a small outputs:

cash -> output 1 - cash2nd
     -> output 2 - work2nd
     -> output 3 - trading2nd
and then spend from all these 2nd accounts in one big transaction

Is better (anonymity-wise) A or B and why or you suggest better direction?

I thought sharing this could be a good pro-P2Pool (or solo-mining) take:

Fair/Honest/Domestically-made mining (whatever you call it) is might incentivized against botnet hashrate shutdown periods, because it grows dominance of the pool and probably taking their hashrate profitability.

Monero has a problem. The suspected spam transactions from earlier this year showed that Monero nodes do not cope with high transaction volume as well as expected. Monero protocol developers have been trying to get to the root of the issue, but the problem only appears when nodes are handling high transaction volumes.

Since the spam is over (for now), the only way to help developers find and fix the bottlenecks is to run a separate test network that will be spammed with transactions. We call it "stressnet". The performance bottlenecks are potential blockers for privacy improvements like larger rings sizes and/or Full Chain Membership Proofs (FCMPs). To quote developer selsta: "a large increase to the ring size is going to risk the stability of the network if we don't fix the known daemon [node] inefficiency bugs first."

A testnet fork (the stressnet) has been created to stress test the node and diagnose performance bottlenecks. To participate, you can simply run a node using this slightly modified open source release of monerod (launch monerod with --testnet): https://github.com/spackle-xmr/monero/releases/latest

Testing begins on June 19th at 15:00 UTC. Current bugs require a significant number of connections to observe, so we need as many nodes on the stressnet as possible.

Ongoing discussion is being held on Matrix at #monero-stressnet:monero.social and Libera Chat IRC on ##monero-stressnet.

FAQs

  • What are the risks to running a stressnet node?

The anonymity set of running a node on the mainnet Monero network is in the thousands. The anonymity set of running a node on this stressnet will be in the dozens at best. If you run a stressnet node on your machine, the IP address of your machine (or the proxy's IP address if your machine uses a proxy) will be visible to other nodes on the network. If you have an extreme threat model, this may be an unacceptable risk for you.

The Monero node process may consume a lot of your computer's resources like CPU and especially RAM. You can set the priority of the node lower using nice or just quit the process if it is taking up too much of your resources.

  • How can I see what's happening on the stressnet?

We have set up a stressnet blockchain explorer at https://explorer.stressnet.net/ . We are working on more ways to visualize the stressnet activity.

  • When should I sync up my node?

As soon as possible. The initial sync may take over 24 hours to complete. Once spamming starts on June 19th, it may be difficult to sync from scratch.

  • How much storage space do I need?

The stressnet blockchain is about 10GB now. The stressnet could use up to 50GB of storage by the time testing completes. Pruning your node is fine.

  • How long will the stressnet run?

We hope that it will run for two months. If it takes more time than expected to track down the bottlenecks and test patches, the stressnet could go on for longer.

  • Would it be possible/advisable to run it alongside a mainnet node?

Yes, this is fine. If you also run a testnet node (this would be rare), then you have to change the stressnet node's default ports and the blockchain storage location. Instructions are in the README of spackle-xmr's monero GitHub repo.
