Anyone else keeping up with this YouTuber?

I suggest subscribing.

He goes on long tangents about TTRPG history and it's great. You can listen to it while you're doing other things and learn something. And you do genuinely learn something new.

TTRPG history (for over an hour, mind you).

I'd just listen to this while you're doing other things.

Video is over 2 hours long and goes over 1970s history of D&D and other tabletop RPGs inspired by D&D during this time.

Here's the description:

Just one year after the publication of Dungeons & Dragons, four other games debuted and helped define the new genre that would come to be called "Role-Playing Games." Learn about Boot Hill, Tunnels & Trolls, En Garde!, and Empire of the Petal Throne in this video: who created them and why, the game mechanics they used, and their legacy in shaping the future of roleplaying games for decades into the future.

Enjoy, y'all.

Listen to it while you're doing other things, ig

I highly recommend subscribing to this channel, even if you're not going to watch or listen to the video, as he does other more shorter videos, and it's always nice listening to the history of D&D and tabletop RPG games from someone that worked on them during his prime.

Welp, again, enjoy.

Howdy! I’m Drew, and I’m the administrator of a Socialist West-Marches DnD 3.5e Discord Server, the Axe and Sickle! The server is over a year old, has a dozen DMs, over 30 active members (and over a hundred lurkers), and hosts an average of 2 or 3 games a week. The game has an old-school, traditional fantasy feel.

Devastated by an unknown catastrophe centuries ago, the Ohm Basin is home to naught but monsters and outlaws. A retired adventurer from a foreign land has founded a town in the middle of it, and adventurers - such as yourselves - file into its tavern, the Axe and Sickle, to secure their own fortune! Plunge ancient depths to uncover lost secrets, thwart necromancers who build their strength away from civilization, and compete with fellow grave-robbers to loot forgotten tombs!

If you don’t know what a West Marches Game is, it is a style of DnD game where, rather than a static party that meets regularly and follows the DM’s campaign, the players themselves choose who to adventure with (and when to meet) for a single expedition before returning to town and disbanding. This is good for players with inconsistent schedules and interest, as it is an extremely low-commitment game. You don’t need to set aside any time in your schedule for this game on a permanent basis; just pick a time and day that works for you, one session at a time. And if you have the energy for anywhere between two games a week to one game a month or even one game ever, you can be accommodated.

The only things required are a Discord account and a mic. Prior DnD experience is not; everyone is welcome. For now, all games are run in English. The game is a safe space for Socialists but anyone is welcome as long as they aren't disruptive.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. We’ve recently expanded our DM team and are looking to run even more games than we do now, but to do that we need more players. We’d love to have you!

Check it out, fam.

Also, I'm compiling a Google Doc...

(This is the part where you ask "What could this mean for the human race?!")

I'm trying to DM my first tabletop RPG, but I don't know who to DM with or what game to use.

That said, would anyone be partial to joining me?

I was thinking of trying this.

Has anyone tried this before?

  1. America only won the Cold War by strong-arming a report granted to them by a malevolent alien intelligence.

  2. Gorbachev was a literal, actual puppet leader appointed by Reagan to dismantle the Soviet Union.

DELTA GREEN has always leaned toward a liberal / libertarian portrayal of alternate history so this is pretty based.

Wasn't sure where else to put this so I put it under "Tabletop RPGs."

I want advice to balance this out:

Fungal Folk

Ability Score Increase: Your constitution score increases by 2, and your wisdom score by 1.

Age: Fungal Folk can live eternally but they would need to find a new host body every ~150 years or so. They usually mature in a week as that is the usual amount of time it takes for a medium-sized creature to be fully under the control of the fungus.

Alignment: TN Fungal Folk only care for themselves but will often create loose rules among each other if there is enough of them in a place.

Size: Fungal folk are usually the size of humans but slightly taller due to added fungal mass. Your size is medium.

Speed: Your base walking speed is 30ft.

Fungal Body: You are immune to all poison damage. If a beast bites into your body, they have to take 1d6 poison damage.

Fungal Network: Whenever you are in contact with a fungal network (the DM decides) you gain advantage for all your rolls including initiative. You can also communicate with any fungal creature anywhere as long as it is touching the same fungal network.

Languages: You can speak common, and fungal

some extra ideas I have for this race are:

Fungal Knowledge: Gain proficiency in alchemist's tools and gain advantage when using mushrooms and fungus as ingredients.

Fungal perseverance: If killed, you can come back to life. To come back to life, a piece of your fungal mass needs to be transported to a corpse, this needs to be done in a certain amount of time depending on the size of the piece: Whole mass 7 days, torso-size 3 days, leg-size 1 day, arm size 12 hrs, hand size 3hrs. After the piece has latched onto a body it takes 5+2d10 days for the fungus to infest the new body and make the character be playable again. All this needs to be done by a third party like another PC or an NPC. The same rules are used for when your body is too old or unusable for any other reason.

Some recommendations for beginners (assets.dicebreaker.com)

This post is for beginners as well as seasoned Dungeon Crawlers alike!

Feel free to comment your own recommendations and/or experiences with mine.

Without further ado, let's begin!

RPG using the PbtA (Powered by the Apocalypse) System about a group of everyday people fighting an unjust regime by whatever means you can think of! Recommended for intermediate and advanced players, not impossible for beginners, but it requires a Game Master who is very good at improvising.

Branch-off of the famous DnD modernised! This is without a doubt the best classic fantasy-RPG experience you can get, easy to play with almost endless costumization for your unique character! Recommended for everyone to at least play once!

"Retrofuture Cyberpunk" sound weird the first time you hear this but it makes sense trust me! If you know the cyberpunk genre you may know what's here: Style over Substance, cool prosthetics and every edgy adjective you can come up with. Except that in this RPG you try to get the community together to fight the capitalist system that brought you to this point! Earning money by doing under-payed gig-jobs in daylight, buying weapons and tools and then foiling the plans of your bosses by night! Same as comrades it uses the PbtA system, but this game is more focused on actually building and sustaining the community than Comrades, but it's your game, blow it all to high hell if you want! Recommended for intermediate players because of the system and all the rules for prosthetics.

Ever played Persona (especially 5)? Wished there was a TTRPG like that? Many tried and failed, but this one is very good! Again utilizing the PbtA system (can you tell that I like it?) this game tries to capture the spirit of the latest persona game: a group of teenagers or young adults (animal mascot or robot too) become aware of a growing evil that gives its subordinates unimaginable power and wealth by oppressing the populace, awaken to their powers and decide to use them to fight back against the system! The game very much focuses on interpersonal relationships of the player characters and how it helps/effects or hinders their rebellion. Recommended for beginners and people who never played PbtA before because of it's cool Tutorial system.

I have many more, but this post is getting too long, maybe I'll make more if you like these? Only time can tell...

We probably should make a group for communist TTRPG players one of these days.

Not sure how I feel about this, but it's certainly a unique project; I've heard mixed things about D&D 5e.

But eh. What are your own thoughts?

Also, we should host game nights for TTRPGs sometime.

Prior DnD experience is not; everyone is welcome. For now, all games are run in English. The game is a safe space for Socialists but anyone is welcome as long as you keep your mouth shut about politics if you aren't one.
