Hey everybody, figured considering this platform is growing it should have a twitch sub! Thanks for stopping by! For now, I think sharing and discussing twitch channels, news on popular streamers, discussion of twitch culture and asking for help or advice is an appropriate use of the space, much like that of its reddit counterpart.

Figured I'd share this guide on Lemmy as well.

NOTE! / LIMITATIONS!

You need to save the m3u8 URL BEFORE the VOD actually gets deleted. Otherwise there is no way of knowing the URL to the server CDN. The uptime for VODs on the CDN can be from 1 day to several weeks depending on the server settings.

How to play deleted Twitch VODs - Firefox / Chrome w uBlock Origin

  1. Open logger while you have the VOD open and playing.
  2. Search m3u8 and refresh the page
  3. Copy the URL on the right side in the search results
  4. Paste the URL into VLC after selecting "Media -> Open network stream" or any other supported m3u8 playlist stream player.

How to play deleted Twitch VODs - Without extensions

Twitch uses some sort of obfuscation so this doesn't always work as easily but it still works fine on other streaming platforms like Kick.

  1. Right click stream in Chrome or Firefox
  2. Hit Inspect
  3. Click the Network tab
  4. Search for "m3u8"
  5. Right click playlist.m3u8 in the search results
  6. Copy and paste URL into VLC or any other supported m3u8 playlist stream player.

I don't know of any good tool that automatically saves m3u8 links periodically but that would be really useful.

Meta search: How to get the m3u8 playlist from Twitch vods. How to play deleted twitch streams. How to play deleted kick streams. How to play deleted Twitch vods. How to play deleted Kick vods.

It seems like they're leaving a lot of money on the table. I don't think a significant number of people would jump ship if Twitch updated their policy to give 99% of donations directly to streamers while taking a 1% cut for themselves.

There might be some initial grumbling, but it would probably fizzle out in a week when people move on to other things.

Or YouTubers. I don't discriminate.

Twitch is introducing a new “Partner Plus” program that will give streamers an increased 70 percent of the share of their subscription revenues, with Twitch taking the other 30 percent, the company announced on Thursday. Most partnered streamers receive 50 percent of their subscription revenues, though Twitch had negotiated 70 / 30 deals with some of the platform’s biggest streamers until recently.

Streamers will need to keep a sub count of at least 350 “recurring paid subscriptions for three consecutive months” to qualify for the program, Twitch’s chief monetization officer Mike Minton and chief content officer Laura Lee said in the company’s blog post. Once you meet that benchmark, the execs say you’ll be automatically enrolled for the next 12 months, “even if you dip below the subscription threshold during the 12-month period.” (Free subscriptions given to Amazon Prime members do not count toward qualifying for the Partner Plus tier, according to an FAQ.) After you earn $100,000 in subscription revenues, your split will be reduced to the standard 50 / 50.

Hey everybody! I dressed up and decorated my set yesterday and made a fun time-lapse video of the process! If you could check it out, like/sub/share I would appreciate it so much!
