I thought Aang just wanted to have fun and see the world originally and did not like the fact he was forced into being the avatar. Because of that he was delaying his duties with personal desires and fulfillment, more so earlier on in the show while he was still grappling with being the avatar.

Yea that was a pretty big part of S1 there were at least like 2 flashbacks on this very thing lmao
